I have enjoyed working in education for over 10 years and have taught English Literature and Language up to sixth form level as well as teaching a module to Newcastle University students whilst I was completing my MLitt. I have tutored students professionally at college level and would also be delighted to help students with any special circumstances such as dyslexic and aspergic students. My first degree is from The University of Warwick and my teaching degree is from Durham (MAQTS).
As well as specialising in Literature and Language, I have enjoyed teaching media texts, having previously directed coursework on the Dr Who episode Blink and the film Independence Day.
My specialisms in literature include: Fairy Tale, Poetry of the First World War, the Nineteenth Century Novel and Gothic Literature. Books I know in particular depth and have resources for are: The Handmaid's Tale, Mansfield Park, The Merchant's Tale, Frankenstein, Dracula, Journey's End and Lord of the Flies to name a few. I know quite a few Shakespeare texts, in particular Macbeth and Othello. I am also an avid lover of poetry and am happy to help anyone trying to puzzle out a poem.
Furthermore I have worked for a print media publication and have written a wide variety of text forms, so I am able to help with writing tasks such as: letter/ CV/ article/ speech etc and would also be very happy to work with any mature students wishing to compose these types of text.
As a film and science fiction/ fantasy fan I get on well with both male and female students and have previously taught in both a boys' and girls' school - so no preference...
