Our lessons will incorporate my own experience of writing for film and will draw from some of the most vital lessons by screenwriting legends such as Syd Field, Robert McKee, John Yorke, Aristotle, Christopher Vogler, and many more who have helped to progress the skill of scriptwriting in film and television.
Whether you are new to the craft or have some experience, my mentoring will be bespoke and designed around your specific needs. I teach a focused, motivated but fun and very open environment in which to learn. I believe that you have to enjoy the process to truly progress.
Why not set up a free 30 minute introduction session where you can tell me your aspirations and I can discuss what I might be able to offer you.

Neil is the all around tutor when it comes to filmmaking. Not only does he know all about equipment and everything there is to know about the actual filming of a project, he's also a writer, editor and wonderful director. He's also a great mentor and helped me to prepare myself mentally to shoot and finish the film I've been working on for so long. Thank you Neil!
There’s a reason Neil is a multi-award nominated and winning filmmaker.
His knowledge and execution of film is top notch and the fact he’s teaching it is a gift for anyone who wishes to learn from a truly talented working professional.
Neil is thorough and engaging and allows his students to develop their own style.
He guides his students in a friendly and encouraging manner, and I couldn’t recommend his tuition highly enough.I had Neil as a tutor for an in person course.
Neil was an absolutely fantastic tutor and I feel I all learnt a lot from him and engaged really well with his teaching style and the space he created in the classroom. He was very good when it came to coming up with ideas and figuring out problems. I think having him as an introduction to this industry was invaluable and very supportive - genuinely a wicked teacher.Neil is an excellent tutor and mentor, who always champions his students and offers them wonderful opportunities. For example, I first met Neil at a short film course at LFA - he subsequently offered me my first film job on his set. Since then he has mentored me and I have taken multiple 1-1 courses with him - which have always been incredibly taught, inspiring and helpful.
I Highly recommend Niel as a tutor. His knowledge of the craft is at the top tier. He helped me massively whilst studying under him for 6 months in understanding the language of cinema.
At the beginning of that 6 month journey I didn’t have much of a grasp on how a film is put together, by the the end I wrote, directed & edited a 10 minute short film.
A big part of this success was due to Neils ability to simplify the complexities of the filmmaking process. Thanks againI highly recommend Neil!
Neil is a great teacher! Very knowledgeable , professional and fun. He has plenty of real-life experience in film and video production so you get very practical application of knowledge.Neil is a fantastic tutor, and his investment in your work, yourself and your projects is both genuine and invaluable.
His advice with helping me, (who loved films but knew very little about how to properly make them), to write, produce, direct, and edit my own film was amazing. It certainly would not have reached its full potential without his guidance.
His knowledge of filmmaking and his understanding of presentation and editing will make your work look the best it can be. His advice and goals you should set when writing will take your scripts to the next level and have certainly helped me improve my own writing style.
I highly recommend you make full use of his knowledge and experiences. He is an engaging teacher and his 1 to 1 style is what I think sets him above the rest, one of the best tutors I’ve ever had the privilege of being mentored by.Neil has been the best mentor I’ve ever had since beginning my career in film. Unlike many tutors, Neil’s classes incorporates all the knowledge he’s gathered from working in the industry for many years.
He’s allowed me to reach my highest potential as a filmmaker, helping me to create actual films that were once just an idea. Neil assists with everything from pre-production to acting and screenwriting, whilst being mindful of our limited budget and access to equipment.
He’s simply a talented, lovely artist who’s genuinely interested in helping his students grow. I could not recommend him enough.
Neil is undoubtedly one of the best tutors I’ve had. He makes learning engaging, creative, and fun - while making sure you are absorbing everything you need to know. He is incredibly knowledgeable about all elements of production, and does best when he is guiding you towards your best work in a 1-1 session. I learn a huge amount from him and his passion for the industry is infectious. 100% recommend, you can’t go wrong.
Neil has been mentoring me for the past 3 years since I met him on a 1-day Directing Course through the LFA.
Having done a range of film courses (incl. screenwriting, acting and documentary-making), I knew I needed to learn more in a bespoke way.
Neil’s approach to the 1-day directing course gave me a sense that he’d be a great mentor and I wasn’t wrong!
Neil is an amazing tutor. He has a wealth of experience (check out his website and IMDB for a start) snd is approachable which is so important to me. He has made it enjoyable, purposeful, eye-opening and meaningful all along. He’s helped me to feel safe to not know, make mistakes, share my own ideas and ask Qs.
When I approached him about mentoring he took time to really understand what I needed based on my context. He clearly cared and offered me a range of thoughtful suggestions about next steps in working with him.
Neil is flexible in scheduling mentoring sessions and I feel I get real value for money in funding my mentoring. He is mindful of my resource and makes film feel accessible.
As a tutor he gets the balance right between respecting my individual creativity, giving me the benefit of the doubt that I am bringing a level of competence whilst being aware of how I need to learn and areas for development. Neil pushes me to develop and do challenging things without making me feel overwhelmed. He listens and tunes in.
He has supported me in a variety of ways including developing a feature film script, collaborating on the production of a short film, learning about directing and most recently writing and directing my own short film.
If you work with Neil you’ll have fun learning to do challenging and meaningful work in film.
Thank you Neil.
