About Alex
Hi, I'm Alex. I am a fully qualified secondary English teacher based in Edinburgh. I have experience of the current SQA curriculum for National 5 and Higher English, as well as the BGE (S1-S3) expected outcomes.
Since 2017, I have worked in education. First as a student support worker in the North of England and then once I relocated to Scotland, I trained to become a Secondary English teacher. As a result, I have up to date knowledge and experience of the current structure of SQA English exams. I am experienced in analysing, interpreting and responding to a range of different texts and would love to help you reach your study goals
Qualifications:
PGDE Secondary English.
MA (Hons) (2:1) in English Literature and Creative Writing

Before begin to work with new students, I like to organise an informal (unpaid) discussion to hear about which areas of work you would like some extra help with. This can be based on feedback you have been given from your school teachers or based on areas you feel the least confident in.
After that, what we do during sessions is completely dependent on your needs. We can:
1. Work through course materials bit by bit until confidence has been built up.
2. Go over teacher feedback and marking so that you can see exactly where your marks are coming from and where you can improve.
3. Practice timed papers and then mark together to better prepare you for the exam day.
4. Discuss and make study plans that suit your schedule/needs.
