How many square centimetres are there in a square metre and why?

Answers
Well lets start with the facts. There are 100 cm in 1 metre. So a 1 metre by 1 metre square grid will infact be a 100cm by 100cm square grid if we do the conversion. 100 x 100 = 10000 (Remember area = length x width and in a square both are the same) therefore there are 10000 square centimetres in a square metre
