Ok so what we are working with here is discrete probability
22 March 2013
like flipping a coin, or rolling a dice, it is picking a card

this means something will either happen or not happen, it can't be anywhere in between

so to work out probabilities you take the number of outcomes, and divide it by the number of possibilities

3/6 =0,5

so if we want to know the probability of rolling an even number on a dice, it would be 0.5, because you could get 2,4 or 6, (3) and there are 1,2,3,4,5,6 (6) posibilities

think how many cards are there, how many aces, how many 9s etc

does this give you a hint for solving your problem?

If you have a pack of cards with 13 cards in each of 4 suits then there are 52 in total. Leave the jokers out of the pack or there would be more than 52. Then, as Benjamin says, think for example how many cards out of 52 would be numbered 5.
