you might notice that many hazard warning signs are yellow and black stripes. Think about the tape they use to 'cordon off' areas where an accident has happened or there's the potential for an accident. It's used for the simple reason that yellow and black are the most contrasting colours that the eye can see. Yellow on black or vice versa really stands out

North American coral snakes have red, yellow/white, and black coloured stripes. The are also very venomous. Other animals will have, over time, recognised that they are dangerous.
