About Greg
I am a violin tutor with over 10 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music Education, specializing in Strings – Violin. Throughout my career, I have had the joy of directing string ensembles, leading group violin classes, and conducting youth orchestras. I take pride in my skills in section leading, helping musicians blend their sound, and tuning as a group to create a unified performance. Working with schools, community centers, and chamber groups has given me a deep understanding of how ensemble dynamics shape great music. I focus on building strong team musicianship where every player feels valued and connected. My approach encourages communication, listening, and cooperation within the group. I believe that ensemble playing offers a special kind of joy—where individual talents come together to create something beautiful. Watching students grow not only as players but as collaborators is truly rewarding. Whether you’re joining a youth orchestra or a chamber group, I am here to support your musical journey. My teaching approach focuses on building a strong foundation in violin playing through careful attention to bowing control, intonation, and tone development. I believe that good posture is key to producing a beautiful sound and preventing injury, so I guide students to play comfortably and confidently. Musical expression is also important; I encourage students to connect emotionally with the music and bring their own style to each piece.
I work closely with students who enjoy singing along or performing in groups, helping them improve their timing, pitch, and blending skills. My lessons include exercises to develop steady bowing and smooth transitions, as well as drills to sharpen ear training for accurate intonation. We explore different bowing techniques to add variety and expression to playing.
I use a mix of structured practice and creative activities to keep learning fun and motivating. Video feedback helps students see their progress and refine their posture and technique. Whether you’re playing for fun, joining a group, or preparing for exams, I support you to build confidence and enjoy every step. Together, we develop your skills so you can play with ease and musicality.
