Sometimes life can get us down: stress, lack of sleep, daily problems, etc. can all make us unhappy. Fortunately, there are ways to make ourselves feel better and sometimes it's something as simple as listening to a song that we like or heading out for a walk or a dance.
To start your day with a smile, you can count on music to wake you up on the right side of the bed. Whether it’s rock, electro, rap, funk, dance, or a ballad, there are genres to take the blues away.
Here are Superprof’s favourite songs to put you in a good mood. The good thing is, with Spotify or YouTube, you can listen to them all day.
Katrina & The Waves - Walking on Sunshine
There are few songs with a catchier and happier chorus than Walking on Sunshine from Katrina & The Waves. The group was popular in the 80s and 90s and known for winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997.
The song is the anthem for feeling good. The lyrics are about happiness. The chorus is pretty simple:
"Now I'm walking on sunshine, whoa,
I'm walking on sunshine, whoa,
I'm walking on sunshine, whoa,
And don't it feel good,
Hey, all right now,
And don't it feel good,
Yeah, oh yeah,
And don't it feel good”
The song has been covered many times, notably with a country version from Dolly Parton. It’s impossible to listen to it and not feel like you’re walking on sunshine!
In the video, Katrina can be seen happily walking through rainy London.
Pharrell Williams - Happy
There are mornings where we don’t want to hear the alarm clock.
So what’s the solution?
Throw on a song like Pharrell Williams’ Happy. It’s literally in the title! Happy came out in 2013 and was on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. It went to #1 in the UK charts.
To start your day right, Happy is the way to go!
Hopefully, it's been long enough since this song was everywhere that you can start listening to it again.
Phil Collins - You Can’t Hurry Love
This might be one of those songs that you know but don’t know the name of or who sang it, especially if you’re younger. You Can’t Hurry Love was originally written by the Supremes and was performed by several groups:
- The Surfs in 1967.
- Claude François in 1972.
- Phil Collins in 1982.
- Hi-Standard in 2006.
- Garou in 2019.
Phil Collins’ version is probably the most popular and features an enchanting beat. It’s bound to help you start your day right.
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Girls Just Want to Have Fun, one of Cyndi Lauper’s most popular songs, was released in 1983. For many, it was a feminist anthem and was a call for women to live their lives more independently and be more free-spirited. It tells everyone else to stop getting annoyed by the fact that girls want to have fun.
If you’re in the mood for an 80s jam and some light-hearted fun, this is the song to listen to.
Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk
Here’s a song that you’ve probably heard loads and one of those songs that will get you in a great mood: Uptown Funk, the 2014 song from Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.
The song was #1 in the UK, the US, and many other countries around the world. It received 2 Grammy Awards. It was an international success.
To wake up on the right side of the bed, this song is bound to put a spring in your step. It’ll make you want to get straight on the dance floor or at least sing in the shower! Uptown Funk is good fun and a shot of happiness to kick-start your day.
LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem
“Party rock is in the house tonight,
Everybody just have a good time (yeah),
And we gon' make you lose your mind (woo),
Everybody just have a good time (clap),
Party rock is in the house tonight (oh),
Everybody just have a good time (I can feel it baby),
And we gon' make you lose your mind (yeah),
We just wanna see you,
That’s the chorus from LMFAO’s 2011 electro-pop hit Party Rock Anthem. It reached #3 in the UK charts but was #1 in countries all over the world. It’s bound to put a smile on your face.

Fromis_9 - FUN!
To start your day right, nothing beats a bit of upbeat K-pop. You mightn’t understand all the words, but you’ll understand the vibe.
You may have heard of BTS but not the girl group fromis_9. Their song FUN! is pretty self-explanatory.
“We just wanna have some fun!”
That’s the song in a nutshell. It might be worth setting this as your alarm rather than the annoying bell ringtone. The video’s a whole heap of fun, too.
There’s plenty of other K-pop songs filled with a bit of joie de vivre, even if you don’t understand the words. A few notable ones are:
- Red Velvet - Happiness
- MAMAMOO - Gogobebe

You can also get private lessons in singing or music from the tutors on Superprof! There are many talented and experienced tutors on the platform available to help you or your children learn new skills, improve old ones, or try out new hobbies.
There are three main ways to get private tutorials: face-to-face, online, or in a group. Each type of tutorial comes with advantages and disadvantages in terms of teaching approach and budget so you'll need to carefully consider which is right for you and what you want to learn.
Face-to-face tutorials are usually the most costly as they're a tailored and bespoke service offered by a tutor who will usually travel to you. Due to the extra time the tutor dedicates to creating bespoke lesson plans for you, you can expect to pay more per hour than the other types of tutorials. However, by having the lessons adapted to the learner, they're far more cost-effective as every minute will be dedicated to teaching you in a way that's right for you.
For those on a tight budget, group tutorials can be incredibly useful as you can share the cost of the tutor's time and expertise with the other students in the class. While these classes won't be tailored to just you, you can take advantage of peer learning and also be guaranteed you'll always have a singing partner or ensemble to work with!
If you can't find any suitable tutors in the area, you can always broaden your search. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can now enjoy tutorials from tutors all over the world. As long as you have a decent webcam, microphone, and internet connection, you can look for online tutors to help you with your singing.
Don't forget that many of the tutors on Superprof offer the first lesson for free. This is a great opportunity to try out potential tutors and types of tutorials to see which is right for you. It's also important that you get on well with your tutor as we learn more effectively when we're in a good mood and if you're planning on spending a lot of time learning from your tutor, you must have a good working relationship.
