Arabic is an official language in 26 countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and counts around 280 million native speakers worldwide, making it the fifth most spoken language in the world!

But if you have never had a course or don't have the opportunity to be exposed to the language in its native form, it might be very challenging and intimidating to learn, especially compared to English or other European languages.

Although travelling is one of the most powerful ways to immerse yourself in a language and its culture, there are many options to start learning a language. Our world is full of resources, such as Wi-Fi, mobile phones and other communications technologies that each time more people have access to.

Mobile Applications, also called Apps, allow us to perform different tasks through our devices as long as we have an internet connexion, they are our digital tools. Apps have a large array of possibilities from financial, educational, communication or only for fun from anywhere in the world! Language Apps are a great educational resource to get you started and learn quickly and effectively without having to travel so far or spend much money to get you started with Arabic.

First, we still recommend you to check exactly what your needs are and if the App is a good fit for you.

Some students are more responsive to a traditional classroom learning experience, while some other people respond just as well with different and interactive supports like Apps and online classes.

If you are not sure what is best for you, you can always start with an App and see how you feel. All the apps have different features and formats, finding the right one for you might require you to try a few of them until you find a good fit for your needs and learning pace.

Nowadays, we have access to numerous high-quality apps that are interesting and offer engaging and interactive ways of learning the Arabic language. A positive point is that many of these apps can be downloaded for free or allow you a period of free trial to see if the app is what you are looking for in terms of multimedia content.

Once you have found the app or apps that work best for you, you will be able to learn and study whenever and wherever you want, making the experience fun and engaging. Having access to knowledge just at your fingertips makes the whole learning experience very accessible and convenient to everyone.

Learning through your phone makes the learning experience very handy because it can adapt to your schedule and also keeps track of your progress and the time you are dedicating to the Arabic language. Several apps also know how to track the challenges and struggles you find through your course and can reinforce the aspects you are challenging more with, whether it is vocabulary or grammar.

Check your phone software and the compatibility it has with the different apps, and you are good to go!

How and When to use language Apps

No matter which format you choose to study a language, every new language requires time and commitment. Thus, finding the time to actually study is important, no app can magically make you learn the Arabic language, the time you dedicate to Arabic in your routine is your responsibility.

The advantage that language learning apps give you is that, the length of your commitment and the pace at which you are able to study and learn. You are the one deciding the time you invest in Arabic through the app, this is not a fixed study time like in a language course where the format is more rigid.

This is known as microlearning, which consists in using your free time to learn and study. This is well suited for people who have a very tight schedule but still want to keep on learning new skills and languages.

Microlearning takes between 5 and 15 minutes per session or micro-lesson, this fits in the times when you have nothing to do, such as waiting in line or during your commute to work. At the end of the day, you can find yourself dedicating up to 30 minutes to an hour to your study, which is on average a good amount of time invested in a new language on a daily basis.

If you are able to add microlearning to your routine on a daily basis, you will never have to feel the pressure to find the time to study, it will naturally be part of your routine but with the fun aspect of learning something new!

But, how do you choose the best app for you? With so many choices, this can be overwhelming. We are here to help you and give you an overview of these different apps and get you started in your Arabic language journey.

The following list of apps is based on their features and accessibility. They should also include at least 3 of the following points to fully support your studying of the Arabic language.
