We're living in strange times, from a fitness perspective. The human body is designed to move, but we have little space to move in our crowded capital city. The type of moving we do matters, too. Taking a nightly stroll is fine, but it doesn't make up for the full workouts we need to stay healthy.

Fortunately, London is full of places for women to raise their heart rates. Like the best women's gyms in Glasgow, these ladies only gym London give you your money's worth. From full workouts to nice surroundings, these are the London-area fitness clubs to visit:

Safari MMA

MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, not a sport we traditionally associate with women. The question is: why not? Safari takes 'why not?' and runs with it. These coaches bypass the question altogether to embrace MMA for women as a matter of course.

Khadijah Safari, Safari MMA CEO, intends to open more outlets across the UK. Already, we find activity in Milton Keynes. And, Safari's Midlands initiative counts among the best all-female fitness programmes Birmingham.

Safari MMA Explainer

Safari MMA trainers do not work in a dedicated facility. Instead, they host classes in fitness facilities around London and other parts of England.

As such, we're hard-pressed to describe any of these facilities, their operating hours, or the amenities you can expect to find there. However, we can describe what Safari's MMA classes are like.

  • Beginner kickboxing: an easy introduction to Muay Thai techniques
  • Fitnastics: a medium-power, all-around workout
  • Pilates: a medium-difficulty, low-impact, full body workout
  • Muay Thai: a challenging, whole-body workout
  • Yoga: a medium-intensity, relaxing, healing session

⏰Operating hours: according to class schedule

💰Price: £49/month for classes; £89/month for unlimited access

📍Location: various sites around London (see timetable for specifics)

Fitology Hub

Practically every women only gym London we found proclaims itself the first in its area. This Brockley facility is no exception. Indeed, we noticed this trend while investigating women-only gyms across the UK.

Still, Fitness Hub's claim has some merit, even if it's no longer the only female only gym London. And, this club has much to offer, both in its facilities, and with its long list of classes.

Offerings

  • strength training
  • power lifting
  • 1-to-1 training sessions
  • 1-to-4 training sessions
  • virtual training

Equipment

  • weights
  • resistance bands

Extras

  • private trainers
  • True You Programme
  • nutritional coaching
  • social events
  • lounging area
  • kitchenette

You won't find rows of sinister-looking cardio machines here. Mirrors don't line this facility's walls. You will, however, find a lot of support, and a group dedicated to helping you become your best self.

⏰Operating hours: follow the class schedule

💰Price: membership packages revealed during initial consult

LiftStudioLDN

This women's only gym in London lets its name describe what it's about. At Lift Studio, the focus is on lifting - strength training, and weights.

Here, you'll treat your body to conditioning workouts, under your coach's watchful eye. Unlike some facilities specialising in weight work, this Studio doesn't give off any boot camp vibes.

What can you expect - and, what will you get from LiftStudioLDN?

Classes

  • 16-week training block
  • begin muscle development
  • move to building strength
  • toning as the last step

Equipment

weights

Extras

  • personal training
  • nutritional guidance
  • workshops
  • online check-ins
  • retreats

When reviewing ladies-only gyms in Leeds, we found nothing that compared to this facility. Even better news for anyone seeking a women's gym in London: LiftStudioLDN has two locations. However, the Clapham facility has a waiting list to join, so we offer the details for the Greenwich gym:

⏰Operating hours: are based on class schedules

💰Price: starting from £17,25/session

📍Location: Peyton Pl, London SE10 8RS

Fitness4Less

This British franchise gym chain operates seven coed facilities, all of which are in or near London. Two of them boast ladies-only areas and classes: the Canning Town and Cambridge Heath locations. They are not any type of female gym in London, but these two Fitness4Less clubs take into account female gymgoers' needs.

Even if you don't mind working out in a studio with men, these training halls are worth considering. They host a list of classes and have all the equipment needed to reach your fitness goals.

Should you feel you need more support, you may ask for a personal trainer to guide your efforts.

Classes

  • Core Blast
  • functional training
  • Les Mills Body Pump
  • aqua aerobics
  • Pilates
  • indoor cycling and more

Equipment

  • weights
  • cardio machines

  • personal training
  • Tone Zone (ladies only)
  • saunas

Fitness4Less is branching out from London; for instance, we found such a gym in Essex. However, we found no ladies' gyms in Manchester by that name for our review.

⏰Operating hours: Monday - Friday: 5 AM - midnight; Weekends/bank holidays: 7 AM - 10 PM

💰Price: day passes start at £15; flexible monthly billing starts at £37

Heartcore

Heartcore isn't a ladies gym London, but it offers many women-oriented programs. For instance, Heartcore teaches pre- and postnatal Pilates classes.

They aim to prepare and keep your body in shape as you await your new arrival. They make personal trainers available so you can remain fit throughout.

The Heartcore Method revolves around Pilates. You might prefer Mat sessions to Method, but both deliver results, thanks to these features.

Classes

  • dynamic Pilates
  • Flow
  • Mat Pilates

Equipment

  • Pilates tables
  • related equipment

Extras

  • personal trainers
  • workshops
  • retreats
  • other events

Heartcore lists seven studios around London, mainly in the western suburbs. Below, we feature particulars for their Chelsea club, as an introduction. You may investigate other Heartcore clubs from the links on their website.

Frame

This delightful franchise, with three facilities in London, aims to bring back the zest and joy of 90s workout routines. You might join them for an energetic aerobics dance session, or get more serious with Pilates or sculpting classes. Frame's course list includes some workouts even more energetic than that, too.

Like Heartcore, Frame is not a women's only gym in London. However, female fitness enthusiasts enjoy Frame's focus on women's fitness issues, as seen in its Mumhood class offerings.

And besides, women vastly outnumber men in practically all Frame classes.

Classes

  • yoga
  • step aerobics
  • boxfit
  • HIIT

  • cardio-dance
  • reformer Pilates

Frame's Shoreditch Club is the best of the lot, according to reviews. That's where you'll find the most fun, and the most amenities. This information is for that facility:

Personal Trainer Workouts

Whether you choose an all-female gym in London, a regular gym, or a gym with a ladies-only area, working out with a private fitness coach delivers results. That's because your one-to-one mentor commits to helping you reach your fitness goals, rather than to the class they teach.

However, as we learned when reviewing ladies-only gyms in Liverpool, many women don't feel ready for the gym scene. If that's you, try contacting any of the facilities we featured, to ask about online lessons. Or, you can search for a private fitness professional on your own. To search efficiently, turn to Superprof.

Getting Fit with Superprof

You'll find 835 Superprof fitness trainers in London alone, and thousands more who give lessons online. To save time, you can filter your search results to suit your budget, location, and schedule. And then, once you've found a few likely candidates, you can read their past students' testimonials, and about these trainers' qualifications.

Superprof fitness tutors are upfront about their pricing, and most offer their first hour at no cost. That gives you a chance to go over your fitness goals, and determine if that's the right trainer for you. Often, Superprof personal trainers have the same qualifications as gym trainers do, but they charge a lot less.
