About Gabriel
I'm a friendly and patient teacher who is keen to help! I've studied at Oxford University in Engineering and work as a teaching assistant in a London secondary school. I have prior experience in tutoring children and teenagers in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, where I myself excelled as a student. My strength as a tutor lies in explaining concepts and developing a good understanding of ideas within these subjects. During sessions I would aim to assure fundamental understanding, making it easier as we move on and apply this to solving problems. Often in classrooms, the stage that eludes students is implementing what they have learnt in answering exam questions about it. This would be something that I focus on and is a skill that has cross-curricular advantages. I want other students to enjoy learning as much as I do. I believe this starts with feeling like you are capable of explaining what you are doing and feeling comfortable with something before moving on- feeling overwhelmed or unsure can be a roadblock for confidence within a subject. As a student I had my hand up almost permanently to ask questions and I hope to gently encourage a pupil to ask questions, not only to me, but within their classrooms at school as well. I think this is the most efficient way of getting to the root of any problems and go from struggling with something to being confident with it! I have experience with a wide range of students' abilities from those with SEN to those who are among the stronger learners, and Oxbridge candidates. Within this role I took some private tutoring sessions with students in A level Maths, Further Maths, Physics and History essay writing. I also passed the Physics Aptitude test with a strong result aiding my admittance into Oxford University.

I did Maths, Further Maths and Physics A Levels.
Due to my ADHD and Dyslexia, find revision and organisation extremely difficult.
The school Senco arranged for Mr Jacobs to come in every week for a one to one session to help me with my studies.
I had done badly in my set of mocks before this so I went through some of the questions on the mocks on our first session. Mr Jacobs quickly picked up on the best ways I learnt and taught me in a way that made me understand the subject when previously I could not even attempt the question.
He set me a homework to print out the syllabus for each subject and highlight the areas I found difficult.
I was also asked me to bring in a set of questions weekly that I had found difficult in class and after learning how to do those questions by going through it, he would set me a few questions similar to the ones I found hard as a homework task.
This really helped solidify my understanding in many topics across the subjects.
I was also helped to create a realistic revision schedule online which factored in days where I was doing other things and gave me enough time to do homework and rest.
This really helped reassure me on the timing of the exams as it showed me there was enough time to cover all content before the actual exams.
The help I had was so valuable as I went from D/Es to As in the following mocks and gave me a much better understanding and clarity of how I could prepare, study and understand each subject before the exams.
The tuition is excellent and Mr Jacobs is very good at understanding and working with people who have special needs, or struggle with organisation and he’s also excellent at helping you understand and master different topics.I had the pleasure of working alongside Gabriel in the Maths classroom for a number of months. He is extremely hard-working, professional and approachable. His mathematical knowledge is excellent and he has a calm, effective way of sharing this with his pupils. This is why he is such a good tutor.
