About Sophie
I am a piano instructor with over 9 years of experience teaching in-person and online. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a pedagogy focus. Lessons emphasise sight-reading fluency, score analysis, and interpretation of complex repertoire. I personalise instruction to each student’s strengths and goals. Music history, theory, and period performance practices are incorporated throughout. Finger exercises strengthen technique while supporting expressive artistry. Students include beginners, advanced learners, and professional pianists. Lessons cultivate technical skill, creativity, and musical independence. Lessons cover melodic development, comping, and creating spontaneous arrangements. The Jazz Pianist and The Pop Player guide style and improvisation exercises. Feedback is constant to help students refine their personal voice. Exercises develop the ability to play confidently on the spot. Lessons balance structured technical practice with free musical exploration. Rhythm, harmony, and melodic creativity are key focus areas. Students are encouraged to compose short solos and develop improvisation skills. Lessons are adapted for beginners, intermediate, and advanced players.
