About Emily
My first career was as a litigator at a top firm in New York City. Although I loved the study of law, I did not find the practice of law to be fulfilling. So I turned to non-profit work before moving on to teaching. I have now taught English / coached Debate for seven years, and I love it. I love working with the next generation to help build their skills, knowledge, and confidence. I also love learning from them. For example, I became a HUGE fan of K-pop and K-dramas because my students kept talking about them. In my free time, I love to hike, paint, read, and write.

Every student has different goals and learning approaches, so I do not employ a one-size-fits-all methodology. Instead, I adjust my style to meet the student's needs and their existing skill set. I also try to use materials and build lesson plans that taps into their own external interests. Finally, my background as a lawyer gives me real-world writing experience, which I love to use to help my students develop and build their own skills.
