About Pip
*AVAILABLE NOW FOR LAST MINUTE EXAM PREPARATION
Hi, I'm Pip! I have worked professionally as a teacher of Science at an international school in Switzerland, and as a teacher of Maths at a school in the UK, and I have been tutoring for more than 3 years.
If there is one particular topic that you are struggling to get your head around, let me know and I will provide a special lesson for you that breaks down that topic into manageable chunks and gives you great exam technique to demonstrate that new understanding. This makes getting 100% of the marks for that topic much easier, and ensures that the student achieves a lot in a short about of time.
If you do not see a time in my schedule that fits your availability, please get in contact as I can arrange something for you. I am also happy to do joint lessons, so if your child and a friend are struggling with the same topic, you may split the cost of that lesson.
Former parents/pupils say;
“He was the best science teacher I have ever had... He is also efficient and has the ability to accomplish a lot in a short period of time. He is also fun, patient and kind. I highly recommend him.”
- Spencer H (Science)
“He always made sure we enjoyed what we were learning and that we could use it later in life... [We gained] A deep understanding of various science topics and valuable life skills. A new outlook on how to deal with situations that we could come across in life.”
- Sophie S (Science)
“Pip ticks all the boxes for a tutor - on time, informed about different exam methods and requirements and full of tips on how to navigate them. He's also fun, and genuinely focused on your individual child's needs and learning style (both in the tutoring session itself and beyond) with highly useful feedback for parents and fun suggestions for further learning. Most importantly he has genuinely connected with my son and ignited in him a new confidence to tackle subjects he used to shy away from.”
- Paula W (11+ Admissions)
“Pip is a sunny person, very helpful, open minded and well informed. His lessons were amazing, fascinating...”

Pip always wanted the best for his students and stopped at nothing to make class interesting and engaging. Not only did he teach us science, but topics related that we didn't think were, such as mindfulness. He included hands-on experiments that taught us different aspects of that topic. He always made sure we enjoyed what we were learning and that we could use it later in life.
I really enjoyed Pip’s science classes while at The Winter Term. His expertise spans a wide variety of domains, allowing us to learn everything from DNA structure to snow formation. Some of my favorite classes were when Pip combined his qualifications in neuroscience with his passion for mindfulness. In doing this, our class learned the science behind meditation and helpful strategies for stress reduction. Pip always led though provoking, dynamic discussions both inside and outside the classroom. He was always available to answer questions related to the curriculum, but also happy to have conversations on any topic. Although Pip is a scientist by training, he has much to share in other fields, such as music and meditation. Most importantly, Pip went through every day with unfaltering optimism and patience. His teaching style was clear, and often used hands-on experiences to learn. All of this has made Pip someone who I have learned from and look up to tremendously.
Pip was my science teacher for 3 months at a wonderful program that I did. He taught with enthusiasm and clearly loved what he was teaching about. He taught us all about all sorts of different science ideas in a variety of different ways including experiments and hands on dissections.
Pip taught me science for the past three months in Switzerland and I could not have asked for a better teacher! Truly, he was the best science teacher I have ever had. First of all, he is super interesting and knows a lot about a lot of topics, not just science. He is great at listening and taking students' questions and turning them into deep discussions. He is also efficient and has the ability to accomplish a lot in a short period of time. He is also fun, patient and kind. I highly recommend him. I am already back in the U.S. at my old school and am sorely missing science class with him. You can't go wrong with Pip!
Dear this site,
During my wonderful experience at the Winter Term in Lenk, Switzerland, I was lucky enough to be taught by Pip. Pip was both my advisor and science teacher and was able to teach me so much in the educational field as a whole.Pip was a great teacher that made all his material enjoyable for everybody he taught. He is very knowledgable in many subjects ranging from English to Science to Math. He taught me a lot about science and I enjoyed learning from him because he knows how to make it fun while also teaching the material. He is a very interesting person and understands the life of kids of all ages.
"Pip rocks" is the official line from my 10 year old son who hated study time until Pip appeared. My son is now nagging me for extra sessions with Pip!
Pip ticks all the boxes for a tutor - on time, informed about different exam methods and requirements and full of tips on how to navigate them. He's also fun, and genuinely focused on your individual child's needs and learning style (both in the tutoring session itself and beyond) with highly useful feedback for parents and fun suggestions for further learning.
Most importantly he has genuinely connected with my son and ignited in him a new confidence to tackle subjects he used to shy away from. Each week I find my son mastering a new skill and keen to share it with me. He's right - Pip does rock.I have been Pip Carr's student for two weeks, during a summer camp for foreign students. And those two weeks have been more than enough to figure out what a passionate and qualified teacher he was.
Teaching is not all about knowledge. Having good teaching skills is just as important, and I do believe he was the most competent teacher I ever had.
He didn't just help us improving our level, he also made us into the most enthusiastic and eager to learn class. In only two weeks, he managed to developp with every of his students a relationship which turned out to be a fertile ground for learning.Pip was more than just an English teacher, every single person in that class grew up being there. Not only we developed our abilities to speak and write in English but we also learned how to think in English. Teaching is his way of contributing to society and I would be happy to know that more people will have the privilege of having him as a teacher.
Pip was a very easygoing teacher. He is patient and kind to his students, his passion for music is admirable, and most of all, I enjoyed being in his class. He taught many inspiring topics that usually ignited debates, which was a great practice for we english learners. Pip is also a great listener and is all ears for those who have opinions and suggestions for anything we're talking about.
Well, what i can say about Pip is that he truly teaches really well. Anyone can talk or ask a question about something and he will probably answer and teach it well, if he doesn't know something that he has been questioned about, he will do a research and light up our minds with it.
Pip is not merely a teacher, he is an artist.
His teaching is new and interactive but effective at the same time. I got really impressed by his lessons.
The topics he proposed were always interesting and quite original so as his way to face them.
He gave a particular importance on music and on meditation techniques, that made me and the rest of the class feel comfortable and relaxed.
Also, he gave us a lot of food for thought putting us in front of questions and scenaries aimed at "messing up" with our minds.
Among the activities there were also games and, the funniest in my opinion, making a trailer.
His lessons were always coherent and he encouraged a lot everyone's speaking but also the writing, suggesting us how to organise our essays so that we could keep our notebooks clean and tidy in order to be proud of them.
Pip is a sunny person, very helpful, open minded and well informed. His lessons were amazing, fascinating, a piece of art!
I'm grateful for having had the opportunity to be his student and I'd be pleased to recommend him as a teacher to everyone.View more recommendations
