Experience of teaching 1-2-1 and groups from adult literacy up to speech writing and presentation skills for the United Nations. In a journalism career of more than 18 years I have learned all disciplines and genres. I'm engaging and confident - and can transmit the latter to the pupil.
Experience of teaching adult literacy on a voluntary basis, and also mentoring jothers to enhance their English language ability when I have been in an editorial or Editor-in-Chief position.
Can work with all ages, and all levels of competency. Number of students taught in the last ten years is 100+.
Results have ranged from helping people achieve literacy, helping others with a 15,000 word final dissertation for University and everything in between.

March 2011 to present Freelance editing, copywriting, comms, thought leadership, consulting

I have a very strong knowledge of local and national press with writing, editing and proofing skills gained at numerous employers both past and present – I wrote, subbed and edited the quarterly newsletter of Jaidah Group for four years. Digital experience gained in editing the Jaidah Group website using WordPress and also the same CMS for the Saudi conglomerate SEDCO, whose newsletter is edited digitally (by me) and then stories pulled for hard copy.
I have experience of being able to grasp complex issues and make them more friendly for a layman audience. My experience in media and current affairs is borne out by my having worked for 18 years in this field. My 6+ years of working with numerous PR agencies (Memac Ogilvy, Action PR, etc.) has given me good insight into PR best practice also.
When working for Action PR and Memac Ogilvy I have been an integral part of the team dealing with internal and, in the main, external communications. My work as a journalist has enabled me to understand and build relationships with media and stakeholders.
My strength as a verbal communicator is evidenced by my radio/TV broadcasting experience, and also events compering. I have numerous PDFs of my published work available on request.
Working as a sub-editor, reporter, desk chief and editor has given me a good eye for detail. The ability to correctly prioritise tasks for multiple employers is evidence of my flexibility and ability to deal with constantly-changing demands.
