I take into account the background and interests of learners, tailoring lessons to suit not only the level of the learner, but also make lessons fun and engaging from the start. The best learning happens when students are enjoying the material and it's relevant to today's world, with current issues and topics at the heart of the lesson.
I believe learning should be fun and informative! I love sharing a good historical anecdote and using a variety of techniques to help learn and memorize. This is useful for all levels, but especially if you find studying just by reading chunks of text hard (like me). I'm not a fan of exams or tests, but short regular quizzes help determine how well you are learning something, so expect those.
My passion is for bringing subjects to life for students so that instead of learning facts they are able to take the stories into their tests, ensuring a higher level of success. I take a holistic approach to my students so that I am able to help them achieve their goals by supporting their existing strengths whilst helping to hone and refine areas that challenge them.
I believe learning is best facilitated by engagement and discussion. Each lesson will follow a loose model: For Literature lessons: -A discussion about the primary text being studied. -A short critical reading related to the primary text. -Discussion about the critical reading, and the primary text. For Creative Writing: -A short reading about the topic (ie.
Experience of teaching 1-2-1 and groups from adult literacy up to speech writing and presentation skills for the United Nations. In a journalism career of more than 18 years I have learned all disciplines and genres. I'm engaging and confident - and can transmit the latter to the pupil.
I approach each topic by getting a grasp on what the students' particular goals are, and then tailor-making our sessions to ensure that we reach them with time to spare! I'm friendly and patient, but I also require discipline from my students. The majority of the students that I have offered tutoring to have been high-school age, but I'm absolutely open to university level tutoring, too.
My passion for teaching English is undimmed after over forty years experience. I gained my Graduate Teaching Certificate in 1970 and have been involved in developing communication skills ever since, mainly with Secondary School pupils but more recently with adult foreign students.
I hope to be able to benefit senior school students most specifically but I am also open to assisting pre honours University students. My approach to study is thematically based and I believe that from this basis, it is possible to narrow down focus to style and form, and thus come to deconstruct a text.
I give lessons to GCSE and A Level students studying for qualifications in English Language and English Literature. I am known for my relaxed yet attentive teaching style, and I understand the importance of creating a safe and open environment with the student in order that academic success can be comfortably attained.
My name is Marianne Wilson, and I am keen to help those with their English studies! Often at school, English can seem confusing, outdated or just plain boring. Through my enthusiasm and excitement, I can ignite an interest and understanding for all forms of literature. I also have a keen eye for detail, and can use this to fix pernickety grammar and language issues.
My teaching method is entirely up to you! I believe some people learn best with a more focused approach, whilst others prefer to learn through fun! Whatever your preference, I put time and energy into tailoring each lesson and teaching method to each student to ensure maximum progress and engagement.
First of all, I aim to make my students comfortable with the material and with me as tutor/teacher, ensuring they have a solid foundation we can build on to reach their goals. I work with students to identify objectives, encouraging them to aim high but stay realistic.
Fun, energetic and informative style with an emphasis on session goals and subject focus. As such my sessions are planned well in advance, organised and include differentiated work. The age range has been from 8-12 for tutoring and workshops and so I'm very comfortable teaching at a primary level for the time being but I am also happy to teach other ages.
I am a highly qualified secondary school teacher (French & Spanish), former assistant head teacher, author & public speaker. You, the student, are the focus and your progress according to your natural learning style is what we focus on to get you the results you desire.

My teaching methodology would revolve around you; I am open to whatever would help you best. I can offer feedback and advice on an essay you are working on, help you plan essays, give you mock-exam questions or we could just brainstorm and discuss a book you are studying.
I am able to give lessons to standard grade, higher and advanced higher level students in humanities and language subjects. My lesson structure is exam-prep focused guidance. Hoping to use my exam tricks to get you up to an A! i have found in my own experience of sitting exams in school was to write your essay in a way that allows a marker to check the boxes.
I like to have an organised teaching structure, but if it is valuable to go off course a little then that's fine too. I think it's important to identify one's learning style and work mainly with it, i.e kinetic or auditory etc..
I change my teaching methodology to match individual students' personalities, but for entrance exams etc I prefer to go through the test with a student to see what it is in particular that they may struggle with so we know what to focus on.

Writing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember and I would love to use my passion to help others excel in their studies.
I begin any teaching process by making a student feel comfortable and identifying their weaknesses and strengths, from there we can achieve their goals and (more importantly) attain the required grades. I understand that not every individual has a natural affinity for English as a subject, but I believe that every student is capable of achieving an impressive grade in English.
I am a Final Year Literature student at the University of Edinburgh with a background in Classical and Modern Literature, specialising in contemporary UK based literature studies. I prefer to take a student-led approach to my lessons, establishing in early sessions where the pupil requires the most amount of work to build the strongest foundations for learning.
I think every individual learns differently, and the best approach is what works for each of us. Getting to know a student is important in helping them develop their potential, and my favorite part of the job.
