About Samantha
Kia Orana,
I am proudly of Cook Islands and Tahitian heritage, born and raised in the beautiful island of Rarotonga before moving to Australia at the age of 15. My love for Cook Islands dancing has been with me since childhood. From performing in a group and solo at primary school festivals, local celebrations and special occasions to participating in the prestigious Te Maeva Nui, the largest cultural festival in the Cook Islands, my journey in dance has always been a deep part of who I am. At just 12 years old, I had the honour of dancing with the Orama Cultural Dance Troupe and representing the Cook Islands in Taiwan, where I performed alongside a talented group of artists.
Over the years, my passion for my culture has only grown, and I find immense joy in teaching and sharing the art of Cook Islands dance with others. I am excited to guide and inspire those who are eager to learn, bringing the beauty and history of my culture to life through dance.

The first lesson is designed to introduce beginners to the rich culture of Cook Islands dance. My goal is to teach the foundational movements and techniques, equipping dancers with the tools they need to express themselves through this art form. By focusing on the basics, I aim to ensure that students gain a deep understanding of the cultural significance behind the dance, while also building a solid technical foundation.
Following the introductory 45-minute free lesson, future sessions will be one hour long, where students can choose to focus on either slow dance techniques, known as kapa rima, or the fast-paced, energetic movements of ura pau/ura viviki. Whether you’re interested in graceful, slow movements or vibrant, fast-paced choreography, each lesson will help you refine your skills and express your personal style through Cook Islands dance.
In addition to learning foundational techniques, my lessons will empower students to choreograph their own performances. I believe that dance is a form of personal expression, not just a performance to memorise. The techniques I teach will hopefully allow you to create, innovate, and develop your own unique dance routines over time.
For those interested in personalised solo choreography for birthdays, weddings, or any special event, I offer separate bookings/packages. These sessions must be arranged at least one month in advance to ensure enough time for teaching and perfecting the performance.
