About the lesson
I teach guitar and bass to all levels of ability and can cover almost any style. Filthy funk bass lines, atmospheric guitar improvisation, the fundamentals of jazz or blues, composition and music theory, performance psychology and anything else besides: I can help you explore any aspect of music.
I believe that gaining confidence and having fun playing are just as important as imparting theoretical knowledge. Lessons can be exploratory and dynamic, or structured and academic; we can work out what works for you. Learning songs, jamming together, technical exercises and ear training can all form part of a lesson.
Regular lessons are definitely ideal, but if you want a one-off lesson to explore a particular subject thats also cool!
- Acoustic Guitar
- Electric guitar
I am a professional performing musician. I have a BA in Music, specialising in performance, composition and production. I have been teaching guitar (acoustic/electric/bass) and electronic production for over 5 years. I am really excited to take on some more students, especially beginners, in any musical subject.
Recently, I have composed music for a theatre show and a short film. I have been releasing ambient productions under my own name and doing mixing, re-mixing and mastering work for a variety of clients. My band Ask My Bull has slowly been getting back to playing live shows since the pandemic.
Tom has been teaching our son guitar for a few years now. He's a lovely guy with a great enthusiasm for teaching. He makes sure lessons are fun and engaging. Our son has come on leaps and bounds as a beginner and Tom also makes sure to get him learning proper tunes as well
Tom provides the perfect environment to learn: fun, friendly and engaging!
He tailors each lesson to my needs and has helped me to achieve all of my goals. I always feel relaxed and can ask any questions I want without feeling silly.
He clearly knows his stuff and enjoys sharing it with others.
Tom is a great music teacher. My son is happy to learn more notes and tunes during his lessons. Tom also finds fun ways of communicating the written pieces. He’s also attuned to their likes and tries to incorporate them in lessons. For example, he noticed my son preferred the bass elements and have such, added more of this into his lessons.
I've been producing for about a year and a half now, and Tom has been my main teacher from the very start. I'm happy to say that I've learned a great deal from him. Not only is he very knowledgable and delivers the information well, but his enthusiasm for music and sound design make his lessons really enjoyable and exciting. 100% recommend. He's a dude.
Tom is a great tutor. I’ve been learning how to use Logic Pro X with his help and I’ve really benefited. He really knows his stuff, and is very inspiring as he knows so much about a really diverse range of music as well as being on top of the technical aspects of the programme itself. Tom is patient and fun to learn with, and explains things really clearly, which I definitely need! It’s so useful knowing that when I hit problems I’ll be able to talk to Tom and he’ll help me find different ways of doing whatever it is I want to do. I’d highly recommend Tom to anyone.
