About Ashley
There’s something deeply fulfilling about working with adults who’ve chosen to learn music as a way to enrich their lives. In my flute lessons, we build more than just technical skill—we build confidence, curiosity, and creative voice. I especially love teaching adults over 50 because they bring thoughtfulness and life experience that enhances the music we explore together. My teaching style is calm, clear, and completely student-centered. If you need extra time on a concept, we take it. If you want to explore different genres, we do. I provide a mix of structured skill-building and open-ended discovery. That means we’ll work on tone development, scales, articulation, and rhythm—but we’ll also improvise, listen to recordings, and explore how to express emotion through sound. I use resources that are adult-friendly: large-print music, digital tools, and slow-tempo backing tracks that let you hear your progress at a manageable pace. I also offer optional journaling prompts and reflection exercises to help you connect emotionally with the music you’re learning. For many of my students, flute lessons become a cherished part of their week—a place to relax, reflect, and play something beautiful.

My teaching style is designed for adults who want to experience music as something enjoyable, empowering, and deeply personal. I take a classical approach to flute fundamentals and combine it with progressive strategies like slow-motion video analysis, online practice journals, and real-world listening examples. I have a special place in my heart for learners over 50, and many of my students come to me during a life transition—retirement, a new hobby, or a return to an old passion.
I focus on breath-based tone work, gentle rhythm exercises, and confidence-building improvisation games that bring music into the body as well as the mind. I understand that adults need learning to feel relevant and manageable, so I personalize every session and emphasize growth over perfection. You won’t find rigid expectations in my studio—just thoughtful guidance, encouragement, and progress you can feel.
