About Ross
I have a lot of experience teaching young people having worked and volunteered at summer camps and youth clubs for the last 6 years, and having taught English to primary school students in Nepal and Uganda.
In my job last year, which I took between the preclinical and clinical parts of my medicine degree, I was responsible for overseeing the teaching of young people at a youth group and Sunday school, as well as coordinating the team of leaders involved.
During the summer of 2019, I worked as a Student Helper at an Oxford-based summer school, working to ensure the smooth operation of the course, to organise group activities (including an interactive science workshop) and to help students feel comfortable in a new environment.
I have had some teaching experience outside of the UK, having taught English to primary school students in both Uganda and Nepal. It was fascinating to experience some of the different ways that schools in these countries approach learning compared to what I am familiar with. Seeing children from different parts of the world eager to learn continues to serve as a reminder to me of the importance of education.
I am a very competent user of technology, which was incredibly beneficial during the lockdown period in the UK due to COVID-19. It meant that I was able to carry out engaging, interactive lessons via video call for the youth group I was working with - skills that will be utilised in online lessons.

As a medical student, I find maths incredibly interesting. However, it’s a tricky subject at times that we can all do with a bit of extra help in occasionally. Teachers that have helped me in the past have inspired me to want to teach others. Whilst my skills are best suited to to working with GCSE and A Level students, I am very happy to teach students at a younger age too.
My tutoring is exam-oriented, meaning that in a typical lesson, my student and I would tackle a topic from the the relevant, up-to-date exam syllabus. Initially we would have an interactive discussion of the topic, before working through some practice questions together (based off past paper questions where possible). My teaching method is student-centred, meaning that both lesson structure and content are flexible to suit individual preference. My pupils are always welcome to ask questions and suggest particular areas of their course that they want to focus on.
I love having a bit of fun, and am convinced that Maths can be interesting, and enjoyable for anyone!

I understand that things may come up that mean a scheduled lesson may not be able to happen. I do not charge a cancellation fee. I simply ask that my students communicate changes in their availability to me as early as possible.
If students are based within a 15 minute commute of me, I will not ask for travel costs.
