About Rachel

Such is my passion for history that if time travel existed I would travel through the past to experience it first hand in order to widen my historical knowledge. As this isn’t feasible, I have pursued other avenues!

In 2015 I participated in the Lessons from Auschwitz programme with the Holocaust Educational Trust which involved a visit to the camp. My project aimed to rehumanise the Holocaust in the form of a video telling of individual accounts. My confidence grew as I actively contributed in the seminars, learning to communicate my knowledge and experience. Following this I visited Bergen-Belsen with the H.E.T for commemorative services 70 years since the liberation and attended several ambassador conference, listening to survivor’s and liberator’s testimonies. I also participated in the #notsilent campaign to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Anne Frank’s death after visiting the Annex, Jewish quarter, and Dutch Resistance museum.

Throughout my time at Goldsmiths, University of London (2016-2019) I undertook challenging modules which have allowed me to conduct research into innovative topics such as the history of homosexuality using a capitalist approach. I was awarded with the Peter Galloway prize for achieving the highest average grade within the History department during my second year.

Outside of the academic arena, I was the master of the University of London Society of Change Ringers. As master of the society, I ran the weekly bellringing practice for students, and was key to organising competition teams and outings. I also led committee meetings and gave a speech at the annual dinner. I became a role model to new university students, and provided much more than a bellringing service as I have to be open and friendly, providing them with support throughout their time at university, as someone who has ‘been there’ before. I am currently a member of the University of Bristol Society of Change Ringers.

Alongside my studies, I have worked as a Waitress and Showarounds Assistant at two wedding venues (Packington Moor Farm and Morden Hall), dabbled in a little bar tending at Wetherspoons and became a Breakfast Supervisor at Racks Bar and Kitchen.

I am currently working towards the completion of my PGCE in Secondary History at the University of Bristol, during which I have had the privilege of teaching at both Churchill Academy and Clifton College, a boarding school. I am actively seeking my first full-time teaching post.

In the autumn of 2020 I will commence a Masters in Forensic Psychological Studies (part-time) through the Open University, with the goal of developing my EPQ (2015) project.
