The hormone insulin controls the amount of sugar in the blood. In type 2 diabetes, the body doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain a normal level of sugar in the blood, or the body has a problem using the insulin which is produced. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type; it tends to come on after the age of 40, and more often in overweight people. The symptoms are feeling very thirsty, going to the toilet a lot especially at night, feeling very tired, and losing weight.
