If you're talking about social inequality (which I think you are) we tend to define inequality as different levels of access to life opportunities.

For example because of where you live you might have less access to public libraries or good hospitals or schools.

We also often define inequality as income inequality where different households earn very different amounts of money. Income inequality can affect many other social opportunities such as the ability to go to university or travel abroad. If you come from a poor household you are statistically more likely to receive a worse education, be less healthy and more likely to be unemployed when you are older.
