when you are diving fractions you have to flip the second fraction over and then replace the divide sign with a multiplication sign

we would re-write this as 1/2 x 4/1

So we have 1x4 and 2x1 giving us a total answer of 4/2

Then you just multiply the top two numbers together and put then over the bottom two numbers

The question was why ? When you divide by a fraction, that is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal i.e. turned upside down.
