Why does a skydiver fall down to earth? Gravitational force - the force that causes attractions between two masses (the skydiver and the earth in this example). What is working against him? Air resistance! What causes air resistance? What is air made up of? Particles! Air resistance is caused by something colliding with air molecules as the skydiver falls through the air. The level of air resistance changes depending on three key factors: speed, area (ie is the skydiver streamlined and then does he open his parachute which provides a much bigger area), and air density. Air resistance works opposite to gravity and eventually a terminal velocity is reached. I am available for private tutor session.
