									Friction is the reason brakes work on cars, the brake pads push down onto the rotors, causing the friction to slow the wheels.  The energy of the moving car is converted by the brakes ("friction") into heat.  This is why heavy breaking causes the breaks to heat up.  The break pedal controls the amount of friction by determining how much force is applied to push the rotors and pads together.
