I concentrate on leading towards a deep understanding of the subject. I provide analogies and examples, show graphs, images and simulations to illustrate mathematical or scientific concepts to my students. I ask a lot of questions and try to make the students formulate conclusions by themselves. The ultimate goal is always to make the students capable of autonomous learning, so that they can progress without external help.
I am friendly and joyful, I believe that learning should be pleasant and fun, and try to make it so.
I am a scientist with a PhD in Physics, specialized in mechanics, statistics and numerical simulations. During my PhD I tutored in Mechanics, Optics, Programming and Electromagnetism. I have lived in Macedonia, France and Chile, and recently moved to the UK.
I paused my scientific work last year to concentrate on creating scientific workshops for young children. In parallel, I tutored Maths, Science and French, for a total of about 200 hours, with students between 11 and 25 years old. I particularly liked teaching statistics to statophobes - biology and management students who parted with mathematics years ago.
Fares remain the same for up to three students, I strongly recommend sharing the costs and the learning experience with a friend.
Maths/Physics/Chemistry/Programming tutoring KS3 to A level : £30/hour
Maths tutoring for KS1 and KS2: £20/45 min.
Tutoring for uni students: £30-40 / hour, depending on the subject and level.
Travel expenses apply if we meet at more than 1 mile from my home.
I worked for three years alongside Menka. She is extremely professional, conscientious, and possesses great human qualities.
I highly recommend Menka as a tutor because she is highly committed and places great importance to the preparation of her classes. In addition, she is good to adapt her explanations to her audience.
Finally I can attest that Menka is an excellent scientist, with skills in physics, mathematics and chemistry.
I am in close contact with Menka as well as many of her former students who all agree that she is a motivated, dedicated, and remarkably passionate teacher. Having lived in France for over a decade, she offers her French students the best of both worlds: a vast knowledge of the grammar and structure of the French language and a hands-on experience allowing them to easily and rapidly learn conversational French. As she was always passionate about teaching, during her studies in physics she tutored many students, all of whom would be more than happy to recommend her as a tutor! It should be noted that she taught both in English and in French, to students of different levels, including high school students and university undergrads, and even primary school pupils. She initially helped me with preparing my high school final exam in physics, and then over the years she prepared me for many French exams and essays. I wholeheartedly recommend Menka to anyone.
