About Alexis
Over the past five years, I have been both a lecturer and a class teacher in statistics and quantitative methods and at two of the leading universities in the UK: the London School of Economics and the University of Oxford. I have experience both at the graduate and undergraduate level, and I know very well the issues that students can have when studying statistics and how they can be solved. I know that students are often very concerned about their final exams, and I help them develop strategies on how to tackle exam questions. In particular, I make sure to cover as many past papers as possible during the preparation. As a tutor at LSE, I received several bonuses for outstanding teaching, and I have received overwhelmingly positive feedback on my lectures in statistics for the MSc in Economic and Social History at the University of Oxford. Thanks to my experience as a tutor and lecturer, I believe that I have the relevant skills to help students understand the course material and prepare for their final exams. Teaching Experience at University: from February 2023: Lecturer in Quantitative Methods at Sciences Po Paris. Michaelmas 2018-2020: Stipendiary Lecturer in Economics at St Edmund Hall (University of Oxford) Michaelmas 2019: TA for the Econometrics: Theory and Applications course (MG205) at the London School of Economics Michaelmas 2017-2020: TA for the Introduction to Econometrics course (EC220) at the London School of Economics Michaelmas 2017 and Michaelmas 2018: Lecturer for the Quantitative Methods I course for the MSc in Economic and Social History at the University of Oxford Michaelmas 2017 and Michaelmas 2018: TA for the Quantitative Methods I course and the Quantitative Methods II course for the MSc in Economic and Social History at the University of Oxford Hilary-Trinity 2017: Stata TA for the MSc in Economics for Development at the University of Oxford Michaelmas 2016: TA for the Quantitative Methods I course and the Quantitative Methods II course for the MSc in Economic and Social History at the University of Oxford

Having taught many cohorts of students at both LSE and the University of Oxford, I have developed over the years a very interactive teaching style, where I help students find the solution to a problem using what they already know. If a student struggles with a particular exercise, I ask a few questions that will help them come up with a strategy to solve it. Very often, I have found that students who feel that they are not able to solve a given problem actually have all the tools to do so, but they just need a few guiding questions to lead them to the answer. This is why it is crucial to create a learning environment where students feel that they are not judged if they make a mistake. On the contrary, I firmly believe that it is by trying things out and by making mistakes that we actually do some real learning! Since I have started teaching, students have responded extremely positively to this way of teaching, as evidenced by the following comments made by former LSE students in anonymised surveys: “Dr. Grigorieff goes through the tough concepts and makes it much easier to understand. I only understand what was taught in the lecture after attending the classes.” “I think Alexis is very well prepared for the class and has a genuine passion for teaching. He makes an effort to involve everyone in class. Alexis also places great emphasis on concepts that are important to our study which is really helpful.” “Excellent teacher, great chap!” “He is very clear and very good at time management, managing to cover all of the material in every class and he is always available to answer questions.” “Engaging, smiley, look forward to his classes. One of the best teachers at LSE.” “I think he is extremely good at making the classes intellectually stimulating and engaging, and does an excellent job at providing clarity on difficult subjects.” “Great teacher, very good at simplifying things so we understand.” “He is very good at explaining in simple language which helps us to understand better.” “Finally, a really good class teacher at LSE!”

I was very thrilled when I found out that I could write a recommendation for Alexis. I have had the pleasure of working with him as my private tutor, and it was only through this experience that I came to appreciate the value a dedicated private teacher can offer. I was absolutely amazed at how someone can give such clear, concise, and most importantly understandable lessons. I realized that I can make such great progress and even came to love the messy concepts of econometrics. I recommend Alexis with all my heart.
I met Alexis through the private tuition I received from him over a period of two months when he helped me prepare for my macroeconomics course. Alexis is a brilliant, hardworking, and committed teacher. He followed my pace while ensuring we covered all the relevant topics. I highly recommend him.
I am pleased to highly recommend Alexis as an exceptional econometrics tutor. Throughout our sessions, he demonstrated an outstanding ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner, making even the most challenging topics accessible.
Alexis possesses a deep understanding of econometric principles and statistical methods, which is evident not only in his teaching but also in his ability to relate these concepts to real-world applications. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure that I grasped the material, providing tailored examples and practice problems that were incredibly helpful.
As I don't have any math background, I wanted a tutor that could break up complex problem sets into smaller, understandable steps for me. Alexis made everything look so easy, and I could finally understand the topics I was struggling with. I absolutely recommend him.
Alexis has helped me with some econometrics topics, and I was very happy with his work and with my grade. I highly recommend him, he is very professional and fun to work with at the same time.
Patient, supportive and smart, are only a few traits that make Alexis the best tutor one can have. His teachings are clear, to the point, and they stick with you. It is a pleasure to work with Alexis and I recommend him 100%.
Alexis is not just a brilliant economist, he is also a great person, passionate teacher, and best-in-class Oxford graduate. I think he is one of the best tutors in the UK.
