About Noah
Teaching saxophone is a privilege that allows me to walk alongside students as they blend physical technique with emotional expression and creative exploration. I lay the technical groundwork from the beginning—working on controlled breathing, embouchure balance, posture alignment, ergonomic hand positioning, tone clarity, articulation accuracy, and rhythmic consistency. These pillars are vital for building a versatile and confident playing foundation. But technique alone does not fulfill a musician’s potential—creativity is key. Improvisation is woven into every stage of learning, beginning with call-and-response patterns and simple beats that encourage experimentation and develop active listening skills. Gradually, we unlock modal and blues improvisation, helping students discover their own musical voice. Music theory and ear training are not afterthoughts but integrated tools, used to make sense of song structures, scales, and harmonic contexts relevant to what students play or improvise. Lessons become personal when students select the music they connect with—be it movie tunes, jazz classics, or contemporary grooves. Goal-setting—whether preparing auditions, performing solos, or enjoying weekly wins—helps maintain focus and momentum. One of my proudest teaching moments was seeing a student, who had avoided improvisation, step onto stage and perform a 12-bar solo with clarity and emotional intent—a milestone that marked a new level of confidence and artistic freedom. My aspiration is to empower each student to grow into a multi-dimensional saxophonist: technically grounded, creatively expressive, and deeply engaged in the joy of making music.

My saxophone teaching method blends classical discipline with jazz freedom, creating a learning space where students develop strong technique and an open, creative mindset. We begin with posture, breath support, embouchure, tone shaping, and fingering fluency—all core elements that give players the control they need. From there, we move into jazz theory, improvisation, and composition. I introduce scales not as abstract drills but as tools for melodic storytelling, helping students hear how modes and tonalities color a solo.
We explore real tunes early on—whether blues standards, bossa novas, or post-bop tunes—learning how harmony, rhythm, and melody interact. I believe transcription is the fastest path to fluency, so students are regularly given solos to study, internalize, and personalize. We use slow-down apps and digital tools to dissect solos, loop ideas, and play along in real time. I encourage students to take ownership of their growth, setting specific goals like performing in school bands, recording videos, or composing new material. One of my students recently completed a short film score using layered saxophone textures—something that started from a simple lesson on modal improvisation. I emphasize that music is not just a performance but a process of continuous curiosity. Every lesson is an opportunity to go deeper, and I aim to give students both the tools and the mindset to keep growing, long after they leave the lesson room.
