About Stella
I am finishing my second year of Data Science at Simon Fraser University this summer. Despite finding mathematics difficult at times, I have developed a strong passion for the subject. Peer tutoring every year since grade 9 has helped me deepen my understanding of mathematics and become a more engaging tutor who is able to create personalized lessons based on the student's preferences and strengths. I have also volunteered as a Peer Mentor during weekly Calculus 1 seminars at Simon Fraser University for the past year, supporting students as they work through assigned questions in groups of 2-3. I strongly believe that anyone can excel in math classes with the right support and resources.
Over the past few years, I have developed excellent study habits and have had some amazing teachers and professors. This led me to achieve a 99% in Pre-Calculus 12 and an A average in the PRIME sections of Calculus 2 and 3 at university. Furthermore, I spent grades 9-11 in Honours classes and have a great understanding of the math curriculum in high school. I would love to share my passion for mathematics with students and provide them with the guidance and support they need to excel, no matter how challenging their classes may seem. I hope to encourage all students to approach this subject with curiosity and help them develop confidence in their mathematical abilities.

A typical lesson would start with identifying a student's knowledge gaps and preferences when it comes to learning. It is crucial to me that students understand how to get to the correct answer and why a question would be solved in a specific way. Throughout the lesson, I solve problems with the student and ask them to explain their thought process, providing extra clarity when needed. Additionally, I adapt my teaching approach depending on a student's needs and a variety of resources could be used depending on their preferences such as flashcards, worksheets, and interactive websites. Finally, I like to finish the lesson by determining what topic the student needs to spend more time studying, and providing practice resources if needed. I do my very best to ensure students feel supported, encouraged, and become confident in their mathematical abilities. My lessons are great for any student looking to improve their mathematical knowledge and develop an excellent foundation for future math classes and university courses.
