About Ben
I have always enjoyed maths and physics to some extent; however, I have only really begun to appreciate how interesting these topics can be at university. Seeing the application of maths and physics, all the way from trigonometry being used to help orientate a rocket through to the use of complex differential equations to precisely predict the spot pattern on a leopard, has made me want to help others try and see how incredible maths and physics can be. I will never forget my A-Level physics teacher, who was willing to help you no matter how busy he was. His encouraging style is what allowed me to persevere with physics and maths (he also would answer any maths questions I had). Without that encouragement, I doubt I would have continued down the engineering path. I aim to be able to provide a similar level of support, never giving up in trying to help improve your maths and physics abilities. A little bit about myself: My passion for engineering began watching F1 with my Dad. I will never forget the first time I heard that an F1 car was able to drive upside down in a tunnel! This is what led me to undertake an Aerospace Engineering degree. During my time at university, I have worked on multiple rocket projects outside of the course. My focus is on aerodynamics and trying to introduce new ways of using rockets to deliver their payloads. For example, I worked on a guided rocket to help deliver a search and rescue drone to harsh environments such as in a mountain range. The highlight of my degree so far has to be completing a year in industry at an F1 team working as an aerodynamicist.

For anyone studying GCSE or A-level Maths, Physics or Further Maths: Begin your path to improving your understanding and grades, guided by an Engineering student who has been through the challenges you’re facing now. I’ve been in your shoes, struggling to understand topics or having difficulty applying that understanding to answer questions. This gives me a unique perspective to understand your struggles and offer alternative ways of thinking about the topics and problems. I believe in the power of context and background in learning, which is often overlooked in traditional school settings. I will aim to make each topic interesting by providing a backstory before diving in. However, I understand that everyone’s learning needs are unique, so I will spend 30 minutes during our first session to understand you and tailor my approach to your needs. I also appreciate what you require can vary throughout the year, as such I will adapt to what you require at that time. For those with a thirst for knowledge, I also offer sessions in Further Maths. These can either support your current work or push your understanding to new heights, ensuring you extract the maximum value from the subject. Now, for the boring side of things - I studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Biology at A-Level, achieving 4A*’s. I’ve successfully tutored over 10 students of various ages, helping them improve their grades. Tutoring sessions are typically 1 hour long but can be adjusted to suit your needs. Generally, the sessions will be virtual, as it allows you to focus more on the content that is being described.

Perfect! Ben is a very conscientious tutor and works hard to give his students the best help & support, happy for feedback & a genuine, lovely bloke! My son asked for a physics tutor quite last minute during his GCSEs with Physics and he got an 8! would highly recommend.

Ben tutored me for both GCSE and A-Level maths and physics, over the course of that time I went from bottom set GCSE maths In year 10, to achieving an 8 in both GCSE maths and physics as well as A's in A-Level maths and A-level physics. His method of teaching is both clear and logical, ensuring I understood all concepts of a topic as we learnt them. He also took the time to explain the ideas behind topics and as to why they might be useful in an applied setting.
Ben tutored my daughter for Alevel Maths during the pandemic. He was always totally prepared and tailored every session to her needs. His support was invaluable and always went the extra mile to ensure she understood her subject. I can’t praise him enough and would highly recommend him as a tutor.
