About Eric
I graduated from NYU with a Bachelor's in Mathematics and Computer Science in 2019. Though my full time day job is as a professional full stack software developer, I've never lost my passion for tutoring and helping others, something that started in high school. In high school I started a tutoring club where after school students would come to me for tutoring in any subject. If I didn't understand the subject or material, I reached out to friends/teachers to help the student. I also did private tutoring for any students who needed extra help. Through my club and private services, students' grades increased on average by 8 points, with most in the 6-10 point range. In college, I was also a TA for a data structure and algorithms class where I hosted weekly office hours for students that were consistently packed. I was voted best TA for both classes during the semester I TA'd them. Ever since high school, I've spent north of 1000 hours,99% of which were unpaid, tutoring various subjects to glowing reviews and results.

I've been tutoring students since high school where I started a tutoring club offering free tutoring in any subject. I take a Harkness like approach to my tutoring where I walk students through a problem by asking questions so students state what they understand and learn the required steps. If a student has a programming problem, I ask give me a step by step guide on how you would approach this problem then work with the student to turn those instructions into actual code by asking how each step is translated to code. I learn best from visuals and analogies so I draw lots of diagrams, graphs, etc. or give real world analogies like comparing a queue to the line at a grocery store or a stack like a stack of plates at a buffet to help students understand. I never just give answers to students as that ultimately teaches them nothing and is just doing them a disservice. My lessons and skill sets are more geared towards high school to college age kids but I have experience tutoring adults in software development and full stack work as well.
