I take a very personal approach with my students, the first lessons are mostly how the student wants their lessons to be delivered.
Afterwards, I focus on delivering my lessons and explaining the key points, afterwards, the questions related to that topics are attempted.
Regular feedbacks are given and schedule is modified if students find a certain topic more challenging.
A researcher in Railway Level Crossing systems, with a background in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester Metropolitan University. Currently, Muhammad is doing his PHD and working as a Graduate Assistant teacher at MMU. A researcher in Railway Level Crossing systems, with a background in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester Metropolitan University. My current research involves improving and upgrading interlocking system for Level Crossing, a joint project between OSL and MMU. I work as a graduate assistant teacher for Level 5 students.
Working as a Route Lead for my Engineering Society and Welcome Rep for Student Union helped me improve my communication skills significantly. Promoting and advertising the society within lectures, labs and outside in University’s cafes helped me to talk to different audiences, listen, exchange ideas and socialise with them. Being a Welcome Rep allows me to talk to fresh students of different age, ethnicity and cultural background. Also, I worked as course representative which involves communicating with faculty via emails or in person, exchange ideas and give suggestions on improving the course and lectures.
Working as a Supervisor in Subway gives me an opportunity to work in a team of 9 people. I am responsible to delegate tasks, manage time and make sure everything runs smoothly and within given deadlines. Also, I worked in teams for my University projects, Peer Mentor training and many other extracurricular activities run within or outside my University. I am able to adjust to individuals to get the best performance as a team; making me a great team player.
Working as a graduate assistant teacher for Engineering Department allows me to organise my lectures, notes and study materials. I am able to balance my University studies as well as my part-time jobs (Postgraduate and teaching). I believe myself to be well-organised individual. Who is able to manage time and ensures deadlines are met, which is shown by me meeting every university and jobs deadline I’ve been set.
I have been team leader for many High School and University Projects. I delegate tasks, interact, exchange information and make sure every task is completed in most effective way and within given deadlines. For example, our team in the last year project gained first, also our society is now among the University’s largest societies.
Currently, I am working on a joint project between OSL and MMU. The aim of the project is to develop modern state of the art techniques to produce additional novel interlocking methods for level crossings and depots providing adequate coverage for High Speed Rail. Varied solutions are proposed accordingly to evaluate the impact of differing technology evaluating their limitation and the impact of each layer of resilience compared to current interlocking systems. Neural Network approach will be used to design a smart system, which evaluates the situation and respond accordingly.
Sept 2014-Sept 2017 Manchester Metropolitan University
Mechanical Engineering B(ENG) 1st
In the years, I have gained valuable skills and knowledge of fundamental Engineering principles, tools and practises with emphasis on designing, building and testing mechanical systems. Participation in Laboratory sessions have significantly developed my practical and report-writing skills.
My final year project involves simulations within SolidWorks, Bladed and basics of ANSYS for the failure analysis of wind turbine blade design. I worked with multi-disciplinary engineers to devise an engineered solutions in many different engineering projects. Also, I have experience and knowledge in Green Energy, Nuclear Waste Management, and Vehicle to Grid Technology, Mechanical Design, Smart Cities and Power generation. I have knowledge of mechanical design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Matlab as well.
October 2016- July 2017 Uprising Leadership Programme
This programme gives me extensive opportunity to invest in my leadership skills, confidence and expand my networks and career prospects. I had many chances to meet many CEO’s and leaders from different companies which enhance my ability to think about project management and interpersonal skills at leadership level.

Jan 2018-Present Graduate Assistant Teacher
Currently, I am working as a Graduate Assisting teacher at Manchester Metropolitan University. I take Mathematics tutorial for Level 4 and Level 5 students. Also, I am working as mark examiner for the same mentioned subject.
Sept 2015- December 2016 Peer Mentor, MMU
My responsibility includes giving guidelines to new students, faculty access and also helping them with their academic problems. From one-to-one class, I was promoted and was given a class of 10 people. This involves delivering lectures, interacting, exchanging information and discussing their progress with the head of the department. This helped me with my time management, organising and interpersonal skills.
Sept 2015- June 2016 Route Lead for Mechanical Engineering Society
I was responsible for promoting and advertising the society. I managed to increase the society members from 80 to 200 in one year. Also, organise events and host most of them particularly for Mechanical department e.g. quiz nights, professional talks and CERN trip. This helped me link to the engineering world in both professional and social way.
Sept 2015- June 2016 Course Representative
My duties involved communicating between Engineering faculty and students. I held meetings with Unit-leaders to give them student’s feedback on their particular course. This helped me with my problem solving and communication skills.
Sept 2014- Sept 2017 Supervisor, Subway
I started as a sandwich artist and then promoted to Supervisor. As a supervisor, my duties involve delegating task and managing staff to make sure everything runs smoothly in the front line. Also, I was awarded “Part-Timer of the Year-2016”. This has mainly helped me with my teamwork and leadership skills. Also, it helped me considerably in improving my customer service.
