So take away 2x from both sides -> 2x=6 so x = 3 this is true as 4x would be 12 and 2x +6 = 12 as well: hope that helps. Jon

So when you do 4x=2x+6 then you take 2x to the left hand side to get 2x=6 and then divide by 2 to get x=3

you then put 3 back into one of the equations, and if you pick the first one you get y= 3 x 4, so therefore y =12, and if you put it into the second one you get y=2 x 3 + 6 and y =12 there as well
