If you mean (n-9)x8=72, and you want to find n (which I'm assuming is the case), then you need to expand your brackets out or divide by eight for each term. I'd recommend dividing by 8, which leaves you with:
n-9 = 9
Then you add the 9 to both sides, meaning that n = 18
Alternatively, you can expand the brackets, multiplying each term inside them by 8. This gives you 8n - 72 = 72. You then add the 72, giving you 8n = 144, and divide by 8 which leaves you with n = 18.

8n - 72 = 72
8n = 72 + 72
8n = 144
n = 144/8
then simplify

8(n-9) = 72

8(n-9) = 72 divide by 8 so n-9 = 9 so n = 9+9 = 18
