About Jolie
I am a young educator who believes in lifelong learning. I am so excited to approach new situations with students because it means I get to learn something new too! I have fallen in love with the sciences and it brings me joy to share the wonders of the world, and the mind with other learners. Because I have this love for what I learn, it has made me an individual who dedicates a lot of time to truly learning these subjects rather than just studying to take a test. This approach has helped me to retain this information long-term. Even so, I am never afraid to admit that I don't know, because that just means we get to learn together. My main goal is your understanding and mastery, so if that means I need to spend extra time learning and preparing out of class, I absolutely will.

I specialize in high school Biology and Physical Sciences, but I can also work at the middle school level in these subjects. I can also do Psychology and Neuroscience including brain and behavior topics at the college undergraduate level. My typical lesson plan depends on the level we are working on that day. I believe in using activities and labs outside of traditional direct instruction to reinforce information. Usually a lesson track will consist of some direct instruction to begin, with activities, videos, and interactive lessons to reinforce the information learned. Finally, utilizing assessments to assess retention and reinforce understanding of material is essential to ensure a student has learned a topic. A lot of science is compounding information, meaning that if it is not scaffolded properly, students can fall behind very quickly. I believe in compounding information effectively and efficiently to ensure a student is well prepared in a timely manner to approach the next topic, or demonstrate mastery at the current topic.
