About Florian
Experienced tutor.
DBS Enhanced verified.
I just finished my post-graduate degree in professional acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and have an economics undergrad degree from Yale University. I have been tutoring now for a few years, primarily Maths, German and Acting. I am generally quite curious about the world!
I graduated from my German high school with a virtually perfect German Abitur score—focusing on Politics, Languages, Biology, Mathematics and History—and maintained an “A”-average throughout university. During that time I also completed two semester exchanges at the Sorbonne University (Paris IV) and Sciences Po in Paris, as well as a one-year acting program at Cours Florent in Paris. I am a bilingual German/English speaker and used to be on the path to becoming a competitive football player, winning a state championship, and travelling with my state’s all-star team around the world.
I really enjoy teaching, because I learn a lot about myself and others, while getting to re-engage with materials and topics from ever new angles. It's honestly quite fun!

I try to understand what patterns the student follows: which mistakes happen frequently, what elements and concepts she/he/they have already mastered and how to help them where they are stuck.
Math is a different way of thinking about the world, but because of that it can feel like a foreign language written in hieroglyphs. Or maybe just like a system that almost makes sense to us, but not quite.
To help with that, I try to find different ways of explaining a topic or issue, either in words, by visualising it on a whiteboard or by finding analogies and real-world examples. And then we practice the application together, so if something comes up we can address it right away.
The introductory call offers an opportunity to get to know each other and for me to find out what it is that you want to learn/improve overall and where you feel you need my help most.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I highly recommend Florian as a tutor. He quickly adapts didactically and personally to different requirements, learning habits and needs. Through his degrees and study visits in Germany, Singapore, France, the USA and Great Britain, he is highly qualified, cosmopolitan and familiar with various education systems. Last but not least: Florian is lively and humorous, which keeps you engaged even in difficult phases.
I've known Florian for a number of years, and believe him to be not only a skilled, patient, empathetic and diligent teacher, but a brilliant intellectual and polymath. Florian's experiences have taken him through elite education (at Yale-NUS in Singapore and LAMDA in London), across disparate subject areas (global philosophy, the social sciences, the dramatic arts, and foreign language learning), across the world (South-East Asia, Europe, and North America). The way he thinks, and the vast breadth of subject matter he can speak eloquently about, is testament of this fact.
He is a truly unique individual and I've been very grateful for the opportunities I've had to work with him in the past.I can highly recommend Florian as a bright, very knowledgeable and empathetic young man. He can easily explain well researched topics and I find him to be a pleasant person to work with.
I can absolutely recommend Florian as a tutor: he is very reliable and approachable. He adapted his teaching method to my requirements and he can explain complex topics in an understandable way. Furthermore, he managed to make learning fun for me and I always looked forward to the lessons with him.
