Hyrox blends endurance and functional workout stations to create a unique style of racing. This fitness initiative isn't about strapping trainers on and going for a run or the number of reps you can do during strength training. Hyrox includes both but is much more than either of them. These Hyrox gyms Manchester give you access to all the equipment, guidance, and training you need to prepare for your first Hyrox event.

How to Define Hyrox?
You run eight kilometres. You work out at eight stations, doing a set number of functional exercises, kind of like circuit training. You race - not against other competitors or against the clock, but against yourself. To define Hyrox, you have to know what this relatively new, overwhelmingly popular fitness initiative is all about.

How Hyrox Started
A former Olympic field hockey player, Moritz Fürste, and his mate, Christian Toetzke, were growing increasingly frustrated with their mundane, boring workout1. In fact, they contended that the very blandness of fitness training caused people to abandon every fitness initiative they tried.
It took them around five years to design a fitness programme everyone who wanted to could participate in. The first Hyrox event took place in 2017, in Hamburg, Germany, with more than 660 athletes competing.
Hyrox set the fitness world ablaze! Around the world, fitness enthusiasts wanted to know how they could take part in a Hyrox event. Gyms begged for training plans, guidance, and materials. Practically overnight, Hyrox went from a niche initiative to a global fitness sensation.
What Is a Hyrox Event?
Unlike CrossFit and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), where every event includes different elements, Hyrox offers a set programme. No matter where in the world the Hyrox event takes place, the same eight elements feature in the same order.
- Station 1: SkiErg (1 km)
- Station 2: sled pushes (50 m)
- Station 3: sled pulls (50 m)
- Station 4: burpee broad jumps (80 m)
- Station 5: rowing (1 km)
- Station 6: kettlebell farmers' carry (200 m)
- Station 7: sandbag lunges (100 m)
- Station 8: wall balls (100 ea)
The eight km race mentioned above isn't run all at once. Race participants run one km, stop off at the first station to complete that challenge, then run another km before meeting the second station's challenge. So they progress through the course until they've completed all the stations and run the full distance.
Hyrox is meant for all athletes.
Race participants may compete in the Open division or in Doubles or Relay teams.
Permanently impaired athletes may compete in the Adaptive division.
Children (ages 8-15) qualify for the Youngstar division.
One more aspect to know about Hyrox events. Weather is often the bane of racing (and other outdoor sports) events. Hyrox competitors don't have to worry about their event getting rained out; all events take place indoors. This is good news for Hyrox racers across the UK, considering how our weather has been lately!
Final note: Above, you read that you don't race against other competitors or the clock but against yourself2. Each event you participate in records and keeps your time, so that you can compare your current performance to the races you've run before.
Like other athletes, you may travel to other Hyrox host cities to compete or stick to races in Manchester. Either way, you have an official testament to your fitness capabilities.
Hyrox in Manchester
To date, Manchester has hosted five Hyrox events. Where Birmingham's Hyrox clubs train their athletes for late-year races, Manchester's clubs must have their competitors ready for January events.
The city's latest race filled last January with a buzz of excitement3. Like past races, it took place at the Central Convention Complex. Over four days, more than 10,000 competitors took their place on the starting line from Open, Pro, Doubles and Relay divisions.
To date, Manchester is the only UK city to host two Hyrox events in one season (November 2025 and January 2026).
Considering those statistics, it's no stretch to say that Manchester athletes are all in on Hyrox. You could join their ranks if only you had the right training and knew where you could go to get it. The rest of this article gives you a few facilities to choose from.

UR Performance
UR is a private training facility that specialises in personal training across several fitness initiatives4. As such, UR personnel play things close to the vest, but they cannot conceal the fact that this training centre is a Hyrox partner facility. That means your membership at UR guarantees you qualified Hyrox training and a direct line to signing up for Hyrox events.
Steel Foundry CrossFit
Don't let the CrossFit brand attached to this facility's name fool you. Like UR, this club is Hyrox-affiliated, so you're in for as rigorous a training programme as this sport demands. However, Steel Foundry puts its own spin on getting Hyrox fit, including outdoor training sessions.
While investigating Cardiff Hyrox clubs, we found similar deviations from the standard Hyrox model. On their own, these changes are not contrary to the Hyrox programme. In fact, you may find that such detours sharpen your technique and clarify your race strategy.
Pure Gym Market Street
Pure Gym is a renowned and popular brand across the UK. However, few know that this franchise has partnered with Hyrox to deliver targeted training at select facilities. In Manchester the Market Street facility has Hyrox trainers on standby and a fully developed schedule of Hyrox-related training.
Again, these deviations from the standard Hyrox model are neither unusual nor detrimental to your training efforts. Hyrox-associated facilities from Glasgow to London may take a few sidesteps from the Hyrox model. You might look on that as expanding your fitness engagement rather than harming your chances of Hyrox success.
Pure Gym Spinningfields
As noted above, the Pure Gym franchise is a Hyrox partner chain, but not every Pure Gym offers Hyrox training. Or, if they do, they don't offer complete programmes.

That's the case with this facility. Here, you have access to Hyrox Strength and Conditioning as a class selection. It's a fine option if you live in that general area.
Otherwise, you can develop as a Hyrox athlete with a personal trainer, which this facility has on standby.
Or you can search the Superprof platform for a Hyrox coach.
On the Superprof platform, you'll find five Hyrox coaches prepared to help you train in person and online.
The Sweat Shed
This facility's name gives you no ambiguity, other than that it's not an actual shed, of course. However, you will sweat, especially if you sign up for their Hyrox training programme.
Your coach will likely give you the nod.
If you feel you're ready, you may ask your trainer if they feel you're ready for your Hyrox debut.
The Sweat Shed is also Hyrox-affiliated, so when it comes time for you to sign up for your first race, you can do it right from the Shed.
CrossFit Didsbury
Yet another CrossFit facility, but this time, we found no official association with Hyrox.
However, this club offers several Hyrox-adjacent training initiatives, particularly those that build endurance and strength.
Much of the equipment is the same, including rowers and sleds. From that perspective, this facility rivals the best Hyrox clubs in London.

Here, you can train indoors and out, avail yourself of the open gym and all the equipment it has on offer, and work with a personal trainer to get yourself race-ready.
