Hyrox is the global fitness phenomenon that emerged in 2017. It's not a fitness methodology - a workout programme like High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). It is a race that athletes train for, a race that combines running with functional movements across eight workout stations. The UK is at the forefront of the global Hyrox movement, with gyms across the country helping racers prepare for Hyrox competitions.

What Are Hyrox Clubs?
As Hyrox is a revolutionary phenomenon in fitness, that must mean that Hyrox clubs must be something more than the standard gym, right? Not exactly.

In fact, the label 'Hyrox club' is misleading. Few fitness facilities dedicate themselves wholly to Hyrox to the exclusion of all other fitness initiatives.
Typically, so-called Hyrox clubs are standard gyms that feature all the elements needed to train for Hyrox events.
Such a club might partner with the official Hyrox group. Those facilities receive training templates and guidance directly from Hyrox.
Members of these clubs have direct access to race entry platforms, and they may track their performance across their race history.
Admittedly, the terminology of Hyrox relationships is a bit vague. As we were touring Hyrox facilities in Manchester, for example, we found clubs billed as Hyrox-affiliated, others touting themselves as Hyrox partners, and yet more that were official Hyrox clubs. There is a difference between these tiers1.
Standard Hyrox affiliate
- entry-level partnership
- gyms can use equipment they already have
- may use the Hyrox brand to market themselves
- no geographic exclusivity
- plugged into Hyrox race programming tools
- average membership cost: £100/month
Premium Hyrox affiliate
- replicate exact race conditions
- must have at least 180 square metres of floor space
- must use race-specific equipment
- they have geographic exclusivity
- access to advanced Hyrox programme features
- average membership cost: £215/month
If you're just Hyrox curious - you want to see what it's all about, a standard affiliate facility will suit your needs. However, if you're aiming to get competition-ready, you'll need a premium facility. As you visit Hyrox gyms in your area, be sure to ask if they are a standard or premium affiliate.
The Difference Between Hyrox and CrossFit
If you've searched the internet for 'Hyrox near me', you likely found many CrossFit clubs in your results. Are the two disciplines the same or just related? Will the CrossFit crossover 'taint' your Hyrox training? We can start by saying that both are demanding physical feats, but they have substantial differences2.
Hyrox competitions
- open to all
- training reflects competition
- no complex skills required
- running focused, basic movements
- endurance based; races last ~2.5 hrs
- always the same format
CrossFit competitions
- open to the highly trained
- training for unknown challenges
- power-focused; intense effort
- skills-intensive, complex movements
- different challenges at every contest
- competitors don't know the course until the competition.
Fundamentally, Hyrox is predictable. When athletes sign up for a Hyrox event, they know exactly which motions they will perform, whether it's their first race or their hundredth. By contrast, CrossFit athletes don't know which elements their competition will demand of them until race day, and possibly not until moments before the race.
CrossFit facilities are natural Hyrox affiliates. Unless you're training for an upcoming race, your experience at a Hyrox-affiliated CrossFit facility will meet Hyrox standards.
The Benefits You'll Find at Hyrox Clubs
Of all the Hyrox training clubs we investigated, Dragon Athletic, a Cardiff Hyrox facility, exemplifies the energy that is standard in Hyrox gyms across the UK3. But more than that, it's a prime example of the mentoring, support, and fellowship so typical across Hyrox communities.
After the city's debut Hyrox event in 2025, Hyrox enthusiasts gravitated to Dragon Athletic.
Since then, it has become the city's default Hyrox community meeting centre.
Across the UK, similar clubs form, either organically or formally/officially. In part, it's because Hyrox athletes do not compete against each other, only against themselves.

So, they can afford to mentor novices, share tips about technique, and even help them develop their race strategy without putting themselves at a disadvantage.
Unlike many fitness training centres, Hyrox gyms don't typically tack on additional services. Those facilities have amenities, of course: changing rooms with or without showers, parking, and such.
But they generally won't try to sell you on extras - supplements, dietary advice, and so on.
These clubs generally respect the athlete; they don't typically prey on your wallet.
On respecting you as an athlete: it doesn't matter that you're an absolute Hyrox novice or a seasoned elite racer. You will get the same focus, attention, and care as any other runner. In that same vein, you're free to ask any Hyrox-related question on your mind with no worry of being talked down to or ridiculed.
In Hyrox gyms UK, you're not a customer, a client, or a prospect.
You're an athlete with training goals, worthy of community, fellowship, and mentoring.
Hyrox UK: Partner Gyms
Hyrox isn't just a global fitness phenomenon. Across the UK, this race is growing more popular with every event. Our country began hosting Hyrox events in 2021, in Birmingham, Manchester, and London.
Today, cities everywhere are vying for their chance to host an event, and Hyrox is happy to oblige. In 2026, Hyrox has six races scheduled to accommodate all the racers signing up.
This trend matches the explosion of Hyrox gyms springing up all over the place. Were we to name them all, you would be reading for days. So here, we highlight two popular fitness franchises that have partnered with Hyrox. And one whose template is making waves across the country.

The Gym Group
In 2007, squash player Josh Treharne developed a gym concept that couldn't fail. Make the facilities nice, give gym goers lots of training programmes, and let the enterprise grow. His idea earned him solid financial backing, which he applied judiciously. to grow the chain into what it is today.
In March 2023, 12 Gym Group London facilities partnered with Hyrox, following the wild success of that year's London Hyrox event. Today, more than 120 clubs across the UK offer Hyrox training4. The Gym Group Hyrox facility we visited in Glasgow was a superlative facility. The very type we've come to expect from Hyrox clubs.
PureGym
PureGym opened the doors to its first facility in 2009, a utilitarian fitness concept that went heavy on equipment and light on amenities. Membership doesn't involve signing a contract; gym-goers pay by the month for full access to all the facility has to offer, usually at bargain pricing.
In 2024, PureGym partnered with Hyrox to offer Hyrox training at specific locations5. Initially, in Manchester and Liverpool; today, across the UK. If you have a PureGym facility near you, you might ask if they are a Hyrox partner. If they aren't, maybe your encouragement could help make that happen.

UBX
This is a private fitness club with two locations in London, both of which are Hyrox partners (as of 2025). The focus here is on race day preparation, though members may work out with them to build endurance and get familiar with the elements.
In 2025, London hosted Hyrox's largest-ever UK Hyrox event, with more than 40,000 participants and over 30,000 spectators.
You might wonder why a private gym brand with just two facilities in one city has a place on this list. It's because UBX plans to expand in the near future, and the plans are ambitious6. London's nifty Hyrox connection aside, these London area Hyrox gyms will soon feature across the country.
This clip presents a typical Hyrox training template UBX builds its training programme on. It's the same one that all the top UK Hyrox training clubs follow to one degree or another.
Upcoming Events Hyrox UK
As I write this, the Cardiff Hyrox event is underway; it's that city's second Hyrox race. The next big event takes place in Birmingham in October. You can bet that Hyrox training centres in that city are humming with activity!
Hyrox races take place nearly year-round around the world.
Between June and September, considered the Hyrox off-season, athletes spend their time training. The 2026-27 UK Hyrox season kicks off in October in Birmingham.
Hyrox touts the Birmingham event as the start of the UK Hyrox season. It will feature Hyrox's newest division, Youngstars, for runners aged 8-15. Later, in December, London will host the next event, which will also feature Youngstars.
Looking ahead to 2027, we find Manchester, Glasgow, and Cardiff in the lineup. Because London events are so well attended, that city will likely host an event in March, as it did this year, on top of its December race. All this means that now is your time to get serious about your "Hyrox near me" search, so you'll be ready for the race closest to you.
