Hyrox bills itself as "The fitness competition for every body", with the space between the two last words a clever bit of wordplay that disguises a serious enterprise. Around the world and throughout the year, fitness enthusiasts scan the Hyrox timetable for their chance to compete in their local event. In this city, while they wait, athletes make it a point to train in one of the Glasgow Hyrox gyms we cover in this article.

What Is Hyrox?
Hyrox combines running with circuit training; it's a standardised programme that features specific elements. Every Hyrox competition comprises an eight-kilometre run broken into one-kilometre segments1.
Participants run one kilometre and then step off the track to complete their first station. With that requirement met, they rejoin the footrace and run another kilometre, after which they step off the track again. So the event progresses until they complete all of the stations.
- Station 1: SkiErg (1 km)
- Station 2: sled push (50 m)
- Station 3: sled pull (50 m)
- Station 4: burpee broad jumps (80 m)
- Station 5: rowing (1 km)
- Station 6: kettlebell farmer's carry (200 m)
- Station 7: sandbag walking lunge (100 m)
- Station 8: wall balls (100 ea)
Running eight km sounds strenuous enough, and then this race adds eight stations? That's nearly enough to discourage the average fitness enthusiast; surely, Hyrox is only for elite athletes, right? In fact, Hyrox is for everyone because organisers have built divisions into their events2.
Not every division runs every race; each race's featured divisions depend on the athletes who sign up for the event. Note that participants do not have a time limit to complete the course, but the longer it takes them to finish, the more it impacts their personal record.
Once a racer crosses the finish line, they receive a medal and a tee-shirt.
Potential competitors train for Hyrox events across the UK and may even travel to take part in officially scheduled events. Here, in Glasgow, we have our own Hyrox competitions.
Hyrox Events Glasgow
Glesga has hosted Hyrox events four years running, starting in February 2023. In keeping with the Hyrox standard as an indoor race, the city's Scottish Event Campus hosts the events.
This year's 4-day Hyrox competition Glasgow ran from 11 - 15 March.
That gives you a whole year to train so you'll be ready for next year's event!
Scotland's Hyrox community is growing and Glasgow is Ground Zero for that energy and enthusiasm. Glaswegians are generally keen on fitness, and Hyrox fits their passions to a tee. To that end, Hyrox clubs are sprinkled throughout the city, and they all have one thing in common: they're waiting for you!

CaveFit: the Place for Hyrox Training Glasgow
CaveFit is backed by Hyrox, meaning the coaches receive training templates and resources straight from Hyrox. This fact gives you a hint of what you'll find there: sleds, rowers and SkiErg machines; sandbags, medicine balls (wall balls), and kettlebells. CaveFit coaches invite you to train for an upcoming race or just for your personal fitness goals.
Note that while this fitness facility's main focus is Hyrox training, you'll find several other fitness programmes there. You might prefer low-impact training sessions ranging from mat Pilates to yoga or something more intense, such as High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). And Hyrox, of course.
The Gym Group Crosshill
At first glance, this facility looks like any other franchise gym you might find anywhere across the UK. However, select Gym Group centres offer Hyrox training. We found two gyms in Manchester offering Hyrox training, a nod to this brand's reach. In Glasgow, the Crosshill Gym Group facility is the place to go for this workout.
Gym Group facilities in Forge and West End also offer Hyrox training classes.
The Gym Group is well aware that Hyrox is overwhelmingly popular, so it's doing everything possible to incorporate classes into every facility's class rosters. This brand's Hyrox training programme breaks into four levels.
The Hyrox sessions train students on all the standard equipment: rowers, wall balls, sleds, and SkiErgs. Otherwise, the Gym Group facilities in Glasgow offer all the standard fare: HIIT and cardio classes, circuit training, and body pump sessions. Like Hyrox gyms from Birmingham to London, it also houses weights, ropes, and other gym equipment.
Glasgow Club
The charity Glasgow Life runs Glasgow Club, which operates 15 gyms across the city. Their focus is generally on Glaswegian health and fitness, but the clubs' trainers don't mind pushing their members into greater achievements.
Glasgow Club offers two Hyrox tracks: Hyrox Ready and Hyrox Sim. The first prepares you for your first Hyrox event, and the second is a dry run of an actual competition.
Hyrox Ready
- two 1-hour sessions each week
- 8-week training course
- small-group format (max. 4 people)
- personalised plan delivered via app
- access to Hyrox event ticket ballot early (free)
- access to Hyrox Sims programme
- cost: £280 per person (£17.50/session)
Hyrox Sim
- indoor running track and stations
- rolling races start every 15 minutes
- event held roughly every month
- Singles and Doubles categories only
- full Hyrox simulation
- pre-event race information available
- cost: £20 per person, £15 for Doubles
If you are more than reasonably fit, you might participate in a Hyrox Sim event, just to see what it's like (and to gauge your abilities). Conversely, if you want to get competition ready, the 8-week course is ideal. Either way, this club boasts one of the most organised Hyrox initiatives we've seen. Even London Hyrox facilities' efforts seem more scattershot.
Core Fitness Thornlibank
As already mentioned, Glaswegians, as a whole, tend to be keen on fitness, and Hyrox is just the initiative to break them out of the standard workout session.

However, unlike the Cardiff Hyrox community and initiatives, Glesga's Hyrox community isn't as centralised.
Still, these athletes have a gathering place at Core Fitness. This gym's timetable lists Hyrox training sessions several times per week and several times per day. Hyrox athletes may train in small groups or one-to-one with a private coach.
Hyrox athletes insist that Glasgow's Hyrox course is much faster, thanks to its traditional track and easy moving sleds. According to the online Hyrox community Reddit chatter, many competitors achieve their best times in Glasgow.
But you shouldn't leave your Hyrox performance to chance! Sign up with the coaches at Core Fitness to maximise your athletic potential. Better yet: search the Superprof platform for your Hyrox personal trainer Glasgow. You'll find 31 Hyrox tutors standing ready to help you reach your fitness goals.
A Word About Glasgow's Hyrox Course
The course those Redditors refer to is the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) that we mentioned above. It has space enough to lay the stations out in the traditional format, and it can accommodate the growing numbers of participants. On the downside, running this race requires more laps than more expansive facilities.
Athletes who travel to Glasgow for their race will find plenty of hotels within walking distance of the SEC, with rooms to suit a range of budgets. They'll not lack for eateries, either; the area lists more than 100 restaurants and pubs, offering practically every menu you can think of.
But why travel to Glasgow and not see the sights? You can take a walk through Kelvingrove Park or along Glasgow Harbour. Unfortunately, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the city centre, and you might be tired after your race. So how about if we leave you with a bit of inspiration to help you stay motivated while you train for your first Hyrox event?
