About Mackenzie
I am a recent college graduate who worked as a writing consultant for freshman who did not meet the ACT benchmark and needed tutoring to feel confident writing academic papers in their future college classes. I met with 15 students weekly over the course of full semester, helping them write specialized essays to help improve their writing skills. If my students showed improvement, they were able to move on to more advanced English classes, and some were hired on as writing consultants themselves by the time I graduated.

I emphasize non-directive, encouraging, self-empowering tutoring to equip students with skills they can use long after our tutoring ends. I help my students spot their own errors and talk-through areas of confusion before using practical tools like worksheets and practice tests to help solidify grammatical or structural concepts. I first focus on global issues such as thesis, structure, and voice. Once my student is strong in those areas, I move on to local issues such as spelling and grammar.
