Las Vegas has both - you need a car to get around and there isn't much water

Las Vegas is a good example. Many cities that were largely built last century were built with the car in mind, however, we now realize that cars cause pollution and (worse) climate change. In the future, we will all have to do more to reduce what is known as our carbon footprint (how much our actions create carbon that contributes to climate change) and a big part of this will be designing cities that don't require cars for transport. Part of the philosophy of sustainable cities are 'transport oriented development' - designing new buildings to be easily accesible from public transport or contrbuting to sustainable cities. In some parts of the world, water is scarce (not the UK) and sustainability is about making best use of scarce water.
