What is the difference between -3 and 5

What is the difference between -3 and 5

Answers
For this question, I'd use a number line - ie a line where you write all the numbers down spaced equally - going: -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Then you can just count your way along from -3 to 5. Just to help you, to get from -3 to 0 is 3. Then to get from 0 to 5 is another 5. So altogether the difference between the 2 numbers is 8. (It's always useful to break it down into the numbers less than zero, ie the negative numbers, and then the numbers more than zero, ie the positive numbers. Once you've used the number line a few times, I'm sure you'd then be able to do this sort of sum in your head. Good luck. Let me know if you want more help. .
