Four and a half years ago, I asked Nathan if he’d take me on as an adult learner after a 25-year hiatus from playing the piano, having previously scraped a pass at Grade 5 piano at the tender age of 12. My eldest daughter was already being taught the piano by Nathan, and having tinkered on our newly bought piano, I was keen to see whether I could still read music and string a few notes together. Fast forward to the present day, and I’ve now passed Grade 3 and 5 music theory exams, and Practical Piano Grades 6, 7, and 8, achieving a distinction in the last two. When he first started teaching me, I only asked that he transform me into a half-decent piano player, and I’d say he’s achieved that with aplomb. With the patience of a saint and teaching methods that are far more advanced than those I can recall from the 80s and 90s, Nathan is easy to recommend. Coupled with the technical aspects of playing the piano, Nathan puts musicality at the forefront of everything he does, which in my experience is a rare trait in piano teachers, and I’ve had a few! My youngest daughter is also now being taught the piano by Nathan and is progressing very well.

Nathan been teaching my son for the past 8 years and has a calm and lovely approach when teaching singing and piano. He has give my son the confidence to sing in front of people and Nathan is very patience and an amazing musician himself. My son is now 16 and always loves going to his lesson. I highly recommend him as a teacher in both singing and piano.

I have had singing and piano lessons with Nathan for several years now. I came to music very late in life and initially insisted that I was far too old to take exams! However, I have subsequently passed ABRSM grade 4 piano; grade 5 theory; and grade 6 singing - all with distinction or merit. I doubt very much whether I could have achieved this with any other teacher as it has required not only Nathan's very considerable musical expertise and outstanding teaching skills, but also the patience of a saint!

Nathan is a very friendly, kind and patient teacher and the lesson structures are well thought out and not too intensive - he encourages our children to progress through their grades but is sensitive to their feelings so they take them when they are ready.
