About Sienna

Hello,

My name is Sienna and I recently graduated from two degrees in Education and Humanities. I'm French-Australian, and I came to study and live in France at the age of 16.

Thanks to learning a foreign language, I have had the opportunity to discover another country and enrich my studies on several occasions. The first time was when I went to the south of France to complete high school, and the second was during my international university exchange in Argentina.

This convinced me of the power of teaching and studying foreign languages. I currently aspire to become a teacher in rural humanitarian missions. I enjoy learning new languages, reading, and travelling.

 Teaching Experience :

I have worked with children and adults in an English language centre during my second year of my degree. This allowed me to develop lesson plans adapted to the heterogeneity of the groups, monitor and evaluate the personal progress of each student, and offer an engaging and tailored approach based on their profiles. Additionally, I've taught French in person and online in Australia, which has led me to study the grammar of Romantic languages in depth.

The challenge of teaching young children remotely encouraged me to become playfully innovative, in order to capture my students' attention and interest.

While working in a French primary school in my first year of study, I have also given English lessons from grades 1-6.

My rate includes :

- 7/7 availability over a ten hour period each day, with last-minute booking to accommodate students with family responsibilities

- personalised homework, set and corrected outside lesson time on request.

- my own French resources 'padlet', for self study and exploration, a mix of everything I most love about France and my culture (literature, music, films, etc), combined with accesible material for learning.

- consistent and regular written feedback

- an authentic relationship based on sharing of language and culture as a guiding thread

I guarantee that no part of our communication (messages feedback, texts to study) or class material will be AI generated or consulted.

 My approach and philosophy :

I believe the role of a teacher is one of guidance and motivation, with an ethical engagement of dedication and responsibility. I take on the responsibility to each of my students to accompany their learning, through times of focus and discipline just as much as through those of doubt and confusion, of low motivation and high pressure. I do so through personalised and rich cultural resources, mindset coaching, and a strong teacher-student relationship built on trust.

By providing both high support and high expectations, I respect each student, fully believing in their potential. My lessons are always prepared, deeply personalised, and engaging.

A few questions you could ask me during our trial lesson :

️Where is your village in France?

How was is to leave home at 16?

️ What does a 32 day backpacking trip in Patagonia look like?

What differences have I found between the French and Australian education system?

What do you like to talk about with your grandparents?

🪂 Learning with me means discovering fascinating horizons! I am reliable, supportive. and fully invested in your language learning journey. Together, we'll explore languages and cultures through interesting conversations, relevant literature, and funny anecdotes. I'm here to support you and make every lesson engaging and encouraging. Ready for the adventure?

I really enjoy teaching conversational French, I believe this is the way language was supposed to be taught ; through a connexion with someone encouraging you to embrace the effort communicate with them in their language. There is a perfect mix of autonomy and clear improvement in the intermediate levels, and in more advanced learners, this is often the point where speaking is the main language weakness, rather than writing and reading. I'm naturally very sociable and extroverted (for being French) and sincerely look forward to finding interesting questions and getting to know my students as they get to know me. I also diligently plan lessons, even though conversation is fluid, in order to bring aspects of French culture to the table and provide grammar supports. And also so that it doesn't just feel like a conversation you could have with someone on the internet .

French for beginners
Learning a new language - especially for the first time, is usually quite overwhelming. If you are learning French as a first second language, not only are you learning French, you are also learning how to learn a language. This is especially the case for English native speakers, as Anglo-Saxon countries rarely thoroughly teach grammar in schools. My approach with beginners is encouraging, patient, and provides a lot more structure than conversational classes. Learning is still context-based but overall, I make sure to provide support not only in vocabulary appropriation, grammatical rules and conjugation, but also in access to cultural resources. If French is not your first foreign language and you are already familiar with a romantic language, this means that you have a really good head start, one that is important to recognise and capitalise on. Romantic languages tend to have very similar semantics and grammatical structures. Because I am familiar with most romantic languages, I can often support students with recognising these patterns and resemblances between French and, for example, Spanish or Italian. This fluidifies the language learning process, nourishing confidence and motivation.

Intensive French
I personally have always learned languages quite intensely, I get passionate and can spend multiple hours a day submersed in books, music, and conjugation tables. I know what's effective in intensity, what isn't, and how to balance out different language skills so that you don't end up fluently reading without being able to construct a sentence. I would love to accompany students looking to go all in the French learning journey, I see it as a pretty special process.

French for children
I have a lot of experience teaching second languages to children, both in French and English. One of the best parts of teaching children is the creative process of finding which approaches, themes, and activities for each student, and getting to see how much they enjoy it when you find something that really clicks. I find online tutoring most suitable for children over 7.
