I first and foremost look at the curriculum the student is studying. Then discuss (with parents also) their goals and what they wish to achieve or gain from tuition. It is important to adapt to the students style of learning; and make sure they find the task at hand exciting. I try to make all my lessons fun; as a bored student will never put in 100% effort.
My teaching has a very eclectic approach from inquiry based to functional teaching and building trust and confidence with the students in a safe and happy environment. Every child is different and I base my methods to best suit the students to highlight strengths and work on challenging areas.
I teach by assessing the student's individual needs. For example with French, I ascertain whether their weak areas are with reading or writing or oral, and more specifically with grammar or with vocabulary. I then devise teaching plans that will be unique, enjoyable, and instructive for the student and will allow them to achieve their potential.
My teaching methods are structured to the 11+ requirements, more specifically the CEM (Durham University) exam. I have been teaching an 11+ class of over 15 students for the past 6 months, who are progressing extremely well. My methods generally involve going over past papers and working through different exam question types to ensure that each type is approached appropriately.
I provide lessons for students who need preparation for the competitive 11+ exams that students are required to sit for grammar schools as well as private schools. I will initially take time to understand the student's weaknesses, followed by which I will guide them with practising methods. After this, I will go through practice papers/past papers with them.

I base my lessons around the current curriculum - can be AQA/Edexel/OCR (for GCSE or A-level) or up to KS3 level. I tend to approach each topic in smaller sections and break core units etc. down into easier to absorb sub-units.
Whilst my lessons are structured and well planned, each lesson is tailored to the student's weaknesses. My aim is to make all lessons enjoyable and interactive, providing students with a fun way to learn. I believe that one will benefit from enjoying learning at an early age which enforces a good foundation in their speaking, writing, reading and numerical skills.
