I am a qualified French and Classics teacher and I hold an MA in Classics from University College London. I'm currently teaching A-Level French and Latin at a London-based school, and I am tutoring in French and the range of Classics subjects i.e Latin and Classical Greek, Classical Civilisation and Ancient History up to degree level.

I offer two approaches: tailored tuition for students with particular goals (GCSE's, A-Levels, and University studies) and a course on Latin and Ancient Greek. I combine the teaching of grammar in context with interactive activties and resources for vocabulary learning.
My previous experience is in giving lessons to degree standard beginners Latin and English language tuition to candidates for B1/B2 standard. I can tutor anyone of any ability up to the first year of university. I would first get the student to highlight areas of difficulty that would need focusing on, as well as making sure to cover the entire syllabus. Each lesson, I would explain a new grammar point or theme in its most basic form, then complete some practice questions or plan an essay.
My teaching methods tend to be revolve around discussion and interaction with the student. Emphasis is placed on increasing the student's confidence in analysing, discussing, and spotting key points themselves through structured prompts.
In terms of languages, grammar is the most important component for me.
My teaching method is as simple/complex, as informal/formal as the needs of my students. However, my teaching is more academic and theoretical in approach, 40 minutes long per session and this is split into two 15 minute slots with a ten minute break after the first 15 minutes. I am a year 13 student who has just finished college with a view to studying Classics at Durham next year. I tend to focus on the language side of Classics as this is something which teachers can go over very quickly. Primarily I go through past paper resources and teach my students how to approach different questions and in general improve their translation skills.
In both Greek and Latin I am able to tutor up to GCSE level and believe that the best way to tackle the ancient languages it through the 'little and often' method, particularly with vocabulary. At university I have written a number of first class essays, thus am able to aid essay structure and the analytical process of examining ancient evidence.

We make a plan together and review progress and aims regularly. As a student myself, I understand the difficulties faced by students in the academic field. While I was at school, I often found the the subjects I struggled with the most were also the subjects which I enjoyed the least. In my teaching therefore, I think it is important to keep the student interested and to find interactive and energetic ways of teaching.
For a few years now I have been tutoring students in different subjects and with different needs (10 to 17 y.o.), which has taught me that there isn’t one method that works for everyone. It is really important for me to follow a student over time and understand what works best for them.
I want the teaching to be fun for both the teacher and the person taught. This works best when the roles are somewhat less clear-cut in the first place: I try and push the other person to 'teach' me in turn, and thus develop their confidence and interest in the subject.
