Start pilot training in Stansted with a ppl tutor

There is no fixed number of lessons, but UK licences require a minimum number of flight hours.

• A Private Pilot Licence demands a minimum of 45 hours in the air, split between dual and solo flying.
• The Light Aircraft Pilot Licence requires around 30 hours but limits you to smaller aircraft and fewer passengers.
• In practice, learners often log 55 to 70 hours before the skills test, since British weather cancels many flights.
• The theory side matters too, with nine written exams and a radio licence to pass.

Working with a tutor on navigation and meteorology saves costly time in the cockpit.

The average cost of flying lessons in Stansted is around £20/h.

Several factors influence the price:

• Your level (complete beginner, PPL student or licensed pilot)
• The tutor's background, such as flight instructor or airline experience
• Whether aircraft hire, fuel and landing fees are included
• The lesson format (online, at home or at the airfield)

Many instructors offer discounted packages when you book several lessons.

Not at all, since there is no upper age limit for a private pilot licence in the UK.

• The age rules are simple: you can fly solo at 16 and get an aeroplane licence from 17.
• Your health counts more than your birthday, so you need a Class 2 or LAPL medical before flying solo.
• Starting at 35 still leaves around 30 years of commercial flying before the usual retirement age of 65.
• Maturity is an asset, as older students tend to study the theory more methodically.

With a tutor, you can organise ground school around work and family life.
