FAQ's
📚 What are the seven recognised recitations of the Quran?
Each of the seven qira'at is named after a master reciter whose way of reading was preserved by his students.
- The seven master reciters taught in the great learning centres of Madinah, Makkah, Basra, Damascus and Kufa.
- Every qira'ah reaches us through two narrators, such as Hafs and Shu'bah for 'Asim.
- Hafs 'an 'Asim is the most widely recited narration today and the one most UK learners begin with.
- Small variations such as "Maliki" or "Maaliki" in Al-Fatiha show how the readings differ in detail.
A private tutor will help you perfect Hafs first, then explore other readings if you wish to go further.
💰 How much do Quran tutors charge in Leicester?
The going rate for Quran tuition in Leicester averages £10/h.
The cost depends on:
- Your learning goal, whether reading, Tajweed or Hifz
- The tutor's experience and qualifications, such as an ijazah
- The package you choose (one-off or regular)
- Where the sessions take place
Comparing several profiles helps you find the best value.
📖 How can I start learning the Quran as an adult?
The first steps focus on reading Arabic before moving on to Tajweed and memorisation.
- The Noorani Qaida is a classic primer that teaches letters, joining and pronunciation step by step.
- Signs like sukun and shaddah show when a letter is silent or doubled.
- Basic Tajweed covers makharij (points of articulation) and rules like madd, or lengthening.
- A daily routine of 15 to 20 minutes builds fluency faster than one long weekly session.
With a private Quran tutor, children and adults progress at their own pace, online or at home.
