Learn English with an ESOL tutor in New Milton

The 70/30 rule is a teaching principle where students speak 70% of the time and listen 30%.

Why this matters for language learning:

• Active practice builds fluency: the more you speak, the faster you retrieve vocabulary
• Mistakes become learning moments: instant guidance prevents fossilised mistakes
• Confidence grows through use: the more you talk, the more natural English feels

Many courses put the teacher centre stage, which limits student practice. One-to-one lessons allow you to be the main speaker throughout.

Quality ESOL sessions use conversation prompts, simulations, and open questions to keep you engaged.

Private ESOL tuition in New Milton averages £16/h per session.

This rate can vary depending on several factors:

• The student's proficiency (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• Your tutor's background (years of experience, specialist training)
• How often you study (weekly sessions, intensive courses)
• The format (online, face-to-face at home, or at the tutor's location)

Booking a block of lessons often reduces the hourly rate. Choosing online tuition often saves money without sacrificing results. A free trial lesson is common, so you can check compatibility before committing.

ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. It describes courses designed for adults whose first language is not English.

Your ESOL tutor will focus on building four key abilities:

• Reading comprehension: decoding texts for daily life, work, and study
• Written expression: producing accurate written communication
• Listening: following spoken English in conversations and media
• Speaking: communicating clearly with colleagues and neighbours

ESOL differs from standard English lessons because it prioritises real-life UK contexts.
